STC #18 - Grandmasta
Hello all-
This is my first post and my first speed texturing challenge. It was a good challenge and I was very happy with the results I achieved. I will say that 2 hours was a real challenge and in the end it took me a lot longer than 2 hours. :P I dont know if that disqualifies me or what, but it was fun and I thought I should post my results anyway. I will explain my process. BTW, I tried recording and it lagged my computer to hell and the first hour didnt even render. I may need a new screen capture program.First I created the diffuse going back and forth from Maya and Photoshop for placement. One that was done I found some references for skin and the glove to use. I actually based the look of the glove from some workout gloves I have. The texture is totally handpainted and created in photoshop from looking at references. After that I used the diffuse to create the bump and specular and after a number of render tests. I set up some lights and did a couple renders and layered an ambient occlusion render over it in Photoshop to add some shadow and depth. And wala! It might sound like a fast process but it was very tedious and long. Especially with programs crashing and computers heating up and the usual crapola. Anyways, I hope you like my entry. I had tons of fun. Critiques and comments Welcomed. Thank you ![]() ![]() |

![]() Maps Used ![]() ![]() ![]() Time taken: 93 minutes Procedure taken; firstly i made three pallettes (bone, flesh, skin) by basically going mad with the pattern stamp tool while taking several pics as patterns. Once these were made. I proceeded to fill the appropriate areas with the necessary bone/skin/flesh. After this i overlayed a color scheme that was close enough to what i wanted over each section. I used the burn and dodge tools where needed. i used xnormal for normal map and i messed around with the brightness and contrast for spec map. Entry End - |

Thanks Baida, not sure if I'll have time now to try again before the challenge is over. Your right the forarm dose look lighter than the fingers, think that's just because I used different photo's and didn't get around to adjusting the levels. I thought of lots of ways while doing it that could have saved me time, I'm definatly going to have another go soon. |

![]() ![]() This one was bit of a challenge (my first time doing a human organic object) but I accept it and I think it turn out ok (wish I had a tablet). I fist took some photos of my own hand to look at so I can get the color right (lighting in my room makes everything look red). So I took sample of the colors that I'm going use. I started off with a red pale blood color for the base and started layering everything on top of and build up on the color (this was a bit painful with a mouse). I then started to add wrinkles where they should be act and some vein details. Added some nails that some of them ended up becoming happy accidents. I then added the glove detail and mess around with that for a bit. Then added some hair and thats pretty much it. I didn't have time for normal or spec.

DrLenny great attempt considering you didn't have a tablet. it really shows what someone can do even with just a mouse.
I know lots of artists that have every piece of equipment needed to create the most fluent type of textures and they churned out crap texture after crap texture. The texture you created is really good considering it was hand painted with mouse and then overlayed over several detail layers. It takes talent to mimic something as detailed as the human hand by eye. Nice One! |
