Are there any restrictions to the type of maps used?
I've looked at the link sampson posted, their very nice arms but have been rendered with Mental Ray using an sss shader. I'm not aware of any game engins that support shaders like that.
please correct me if I'm wrong...

This is actually my first entry into STC, but I had fun doing it anyway. No video though... I'm not THAT confident!
I used maya,Zbrush,Xnormal.
Good luck to everyone else!
Hi
Do textures have to be completely hand made or it ok to use photo source??

You can do what ever you want with the render, but we will judge you on your textures (i.e. the maps, etc.). Your choice

Here’s my attempt!

Click for maps --- Normals in action

I started out with gathering photographic resources of my own hands before I even started the actual skinning. Following that, I made the base skin texture using two shades of “skin colour” and the render clouds filter. After doing this I started working on flattening out the photographic recourses I took earlier so that they could be applied to the main texture. After flattening it all out, I desaturated the photo recourses so that I could use the texture from my hands and still get full control of the colour and shades of the skin.
After fine-tuning the textures, colour and shades, I moved over to start grunging up the texture. I added dirt, scrapes and the big gash on the lower arm, which was hand painted using a wacom tablet and multiple layers using various blend modes to achieve the effect of traumatized and semi-infected skin.

After finishing up the skin texture, I moved over to the glove part of the texture. This was actually the easiest part. Essentially its made up of 3 layers. One containing the brightness information, used for prebaked highlights and folds, etc. Another layer on top of that containing the actual texture, in this case a leather texture from cgtextures, and finally the top layer containing all the stitches.

The normal map was made using CrazyBump (Last day of the trial ) and the specular was made in Photoshop using a group of adjustment layers.

Sorry guys, no video from me. I don’t have a proper screen capture application installed, and even if I did, I don’t think I would have enough space to record all 120 minutes.

All the discussion not pertaining to the entries or not actually being entries have been moved to the stickied "suggestions & ideas" thread in this forum. Very nice entry Fleistad...

Well here's my poor attempt. This was a lot more challenging than I first thought, but I learnt a lot from doing it. First off I made the fundamental school boy error of not taking photos of both sides of my boyfriends hand from reference! Doh!
I ran out of time so only got a basic colour map done and that has some hideous seams down the fingers. Didn’t get time to do anything with the glove.
But hay ho... I shall be more prepared next time

The part of the diffuse you did (fingers & forearm) are good (according to me) .
But there is something that I noticed, this is the difference of the hue/color between the fingers and the forarm If I'm not wrong.

Unless this is because of the lightning...

Indeed it's not very easy to finish that hand entirely and suitably

Try again, I'm sure you'll go further.
