Funkdelic,
lol hot chocolate nice and original. The only reason I mentioned whiskey was to point out that it's not a bad idea to research first so as not to make the mistake when doing things professionally. Looks good, I really like the fountain on yours as I've noticed (myself included) failed to do one properly. I'd have used 1024x2 mats only because it's a competition but really that should be added to the rules on which to use. The screws on the board on the right side don't match up like they do on the right. I only point this out as the UVs weren't overlaid so could be fixed in this case. Also might be easier to crit your work if the sheets weren't 128x128 pixels heh.

Love the theme!

Here is my non-entry

Took about 140 mins or so. Because I wasn't fully satisfied after the initial 90mins I really wanted to polish it further and to add it to my portfolio. Creating method was my usual crap.

I could provide also the psd files if anyone is interested though the layers are not in anyway organized so I can't see if anyone could learn from those. And i suck anyway so...

Edit.1

Here is quick viewport screengrab. I changed the colors abit.

Edit.2

Toned down the specular map with the wood parts. Updated the image.

great work, did you use the texture to create the normal or did you create it from geometry?

Susia,
Very nice. Love the support wood work you did by far the best. Can see how why you went over the time limit. May not enter but by far my fav entry. The blue paint is a bit distracting and feels out of place, so I'd personally remove that but I can't think of anything else that looks wrong. Awesome.

rrguitar: Aye, as Tatsur0 mentioned you should certainly brighten up that render a bit.. not with a skylight tho.. use two-three omnis to build up a good lighting

Susia: I completely understand what you mean.. was the same for me on this one, though I submitted the 90'min one and continued t work on it behind the scenes

As for critique.. I think you may have made the wood a bit too shiny. Atleast it looks like it in the last screengrab

But it doesn't seem your specular is very bright in the maps though.. so I guess it might be due to PS. Be careful when editing your work in PS though, it might come out quite different from what it really looks, as in this case, very shiny

Though, I guess it might be due to lighting aswell.

"I'd suggest at the very least to add a skylight bright enough to see."

Yeh was suggesting if you can't be bothered to do anything as complex as adding 3 omnis (sarcasm) :P Or HDRI lighting or... you get my point heh

Thanks all for the kind words.

Tiros: Thanks for the critique I toned down the specular map abit. It looks too shiny mostly because of the lightning I think, at least the wood has about 40~ average RGB value so it is very dark.

Xaku: I made a quick highpoly model and baked normals from that. Most details are done just via nvidia normal map plugin. I normally don't use crazybump for these kind of simple details.

Here are the psd files. I scaled them down to 512x512px. As I mentioned previously they are completely unorganized, but the provide a basic plan how I approach texturing. I'm not an expert in texturing at all I've never had a real game industry job. I have about 1 year of experience with 3d, but I'm desperately trying to learn.

I hope you guys find them useful. Modify them or do whatever you want with them but don't credit yourself of the work it doesn't pay in the long run. If you have any questions just ask.

The PSD files

RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

Made with CS2 (smart filters are nice but I don't have them )but the files should also open with CS1 or newer.
