had a bit of spare time so i made another
found a nice wood texture and applied it as the base for barrel and used another wood texture i made for the stand.then i applied the straps and rivets and the text and created the normal and diffuse from that andthen removed the text and completed the colour and specular map.

TheoLogic: I'd appreciate if you'd show some respect to those who are still new to texturing. The purpose of these competitions is afterall about learning, and not showing off...

So this was my first Speed texturing competition and it was really hard, but I think it helped a lot. I basically just tiled a wood texture from Cg textures using overlay ontop of a reddish brown color for the barrel and a more grey brown for the base. The bands I was really hurrying on so they were just a base grey metal texture with some dodge and blur to make the highlights. Specular was just the diffuse desaturated with the metal bands brightened a little, and the normal didn't turn out at all because I was trying to throw it together in the last five minutes and I was just usin the nVidia filter which i haven't really used yet. Hopefully my next one'll be a lot better.

It's very difficult to see the render and sheets which makes voting and critiquing your work impossible. I'd suggest at the very least to add a skylight bright enough to see. Hope to see what you got there soon

Grandma´s Hot Barrel.

hey guys, nice jobs so far
here is mine

took me 90 minutes.
about the texturing
I took some old texture that I have here in my pc, then I start playing with some photoshop flters trying to achieve a rustic look, some level adjustment and hue aswell. I have here some cool 50's images, and well before someone mention this, I know that we cannot put hot chocolate inside a barrel, but how could would that be =P , I generetad the normal map with crazybump, and hand painted the specular. I would like to try some nice lighting and a cool render, but the bell just rang and I just leave it as it is now. Hope you guys enjoy it!
