This is a very difficult one to vote on. I vote Susia!

Pooder: Yeah I was trying to approach this comp from a different angle. Everybody else did green/scratches, etc with the exception of Daelon who I also give credit to for doing something different. Looking back it is pretty funny looking though, I was originally just trying to make a "Doom"esque type of claymore, but it just turned into something else... what exactly i don't know. lol a peice of junk maybe.

I think Fleistad's is the only one that looks solid (in structural form) and plastic like a real claymore. I know some people went in different directions with it, but creating a diffuse hard plastic material effect seems to be an artform these days. With the introduction of the 360, it seems like everything has to have this sprayed with oil slick look that is a product of over-blown specular maps. I still remember seeing Perfect Dark Zero for the first time and thinking about how much everything looked like it had been freshly doused with some type of lubricant.
I do want to say that I really liked the lighting that Reverend used, but I still felt that the entire thing appeared to be made of metal and I just couldn't suspend my expectations for the composition of a real claymore. Nice job Fleistad! Last edited by Sentientv2; 04-25-2008 at 01:14 AM. |

Thanks Sentientv2!
My vote goes to susia. An overall solid texture with good material definition, even though the specular definitively could benefit from being dimmed down a bit. There were a lot of great entries to this challenge, and I think it’s really awesome to see the many different styles across the board applied to the same UVs. It really shows that if you give a lot of artists the same task, every one of them will bring their own style to the lot. Even to a small piece like this. |
