yours Looks nice though, don't forget to post your maps too. I also looked for reference when i modeled it, but couldn't find any myself.
This is all that comes to my mind when I think of "road sign"

Maps

workflow:

I spend most of my time looking for reference of real roadsigns, because i wanted the text to look as real as possible. (in vain unfortunately). So, then i kinda had to rush the rest of the texture. Made a quick metal texture, played with the dodge tool for a bit, added dirt here and there, then went back to change the text again, and by the time i was done with that time was up. There's alot of wasted texture there, and the 1024 texture isn't realy helping niether. The thing i'm most satisfied with is the material definition on the metal, and the way the sign is "glowing".

I'm also experimenting stuff with real time preview in max' viewport lately, so that's why there's no AA, or shadows...

cheers

Nope, not anymore.

You can submit models for future competitions if you have models/suggestions...

@Doylle
hahaha, your not perhaps Belgian right :P?
I crossed a sign like that one many times since I'm from Gent .
Was kinda surprising to see it on the front page.

Only one thing, why does it has an electricity warning on the back? Road signs don't use electricity xD!

I might enter this one too.

They do use electricity
It's not a simple roadsign,, but more a lightcase with directions etc on it...

Yes, i am from Belgium actually. Live in Torhout, near Brugge.

Since you're from belgium, I also made this one quickly. You'd have to be from belgium to get it though ^^.

Oh yea, it is one of those that is illuminated at night because we have to much powerplants

cheers

@Doylle
Whahaha, geweldig xD. Ik kom uit Sint-Amands berg, Gent. Woon nu in Groningen, Nederland.

@TheoLogic
hmm.. could be, I've never seen a road sign light up at night.
Nice work, but I don't really understand the wear/tear, most of the roadsigns I've seen are pretty undamaged. Only a bit dirty because of the exaust fumes.
