Hi all!

I'm a long time lurker and here is my result. I'll post flats and more info later. Took about 2h / canister after some testing... :P Don't kill me!

Started off with a base metal from previous work and filled with a paint layer. After that with some masking and tweaking 'blend if' I put down the the scratches. After scratching I put down the type and stickers. And last I put down the final grunge and grit layer. It took a few tries to get things started because my absence from texturing so it took more than I planned.

3 * 1024px x 1024px diffuse, normal and spec

Workflow:
Before I started working I did a quick google image search and found this image. Nothing fancy but I like the style and that's where the whole nazi thing started.

Work began with getting a fitting base texture using custom brushes. Actually no images where used axcept for the fire illustration and the svastika bird thingie. I then started adding details like scratches (done with a 1x1px brush using size jitter on pen pressure). Then some more grunge, highlights and color variation. Lastly I did the rusty parts and then made a quick specular with some unique color variation and details. I also did a quick test run through CrazyBump but I did not fancy the result enought to actually use the map.

There's also a not so nazi version, just in case :

I knwo that these kind of canisters might not have been around in WWII but I thought it did fit the overall look.

No worries mate. I guess the second yellow one took about 90-100mins because I used a lot of layers and normal maps from the previous ones. ( I didn't take time though) I wasn't expecting that the time limit rule was so strict. I'll use an alarm clock next time and stop right there.

trixy, that's a nice first post. I'd suggest getting a normal map on the mesh so that you can rid yourself of the hard edges. Perhaps you didn't soften the edges around the main body of the canister, I'm not sure.

I would also key down the saturation of the shell logo. It looks a bit too fake seeing as how the rest of the canister is quite worn.

Lastly, I think a consistency of wear between the cap pieces and the body pieces would help your textures a lot. They are two different manufactured pieces, but according the to wear on the body, they've probably been attached for some time. The colors also seem to be a bit different (for example on the one lying on its side: more saturated blue, then a tinted blue on the cap). It would help if they shared the same color. I think when those are manufactured, they get spray painted almost at the end of the manufacturing process.

Great first effort. I definitely have been lurking in the shadows. My first submission to the forums will be my Armada entry. Keep up the good work!
