Suggestion and Idea thread
If you have suggestions or ideas for the speed texturing competitions, then this is the place to post them.
I'm working on something new for the next competition atm, but i'dd like to get some feedback first. I'm thinking about making a lowpoly model, unwrap it, and let you guys make a texture for it. I haven't had the time to come up with decent list of things i could make, but is this something that you would consider to be fun, or do you want to model your own stuff for the STC? Also, i'm using 3dxMax9 myself, so i can export to *.obj or give the .max file. If there is anyone that cannot import obj, or use the max file, let me know what files you can import, i'll try to figure something out then... thoughts very welcome...

I think .obj is pretty universal, there should be no problems there.
As for models/specs, yes, I think we should all be required to texture the same unaltered model using the same texture resolution (although allow the option to re-UV the mesh if desired). Otherwise it just turns into a SpeedProp competition rather than SpeedTexture. It would be nice to raise this up to eventually have a new 3D prop each week rather than just a flat 512 texture of a wall/box/etc. It may also be an idea to cycle through the usual different props but return every 4th or 5th time to a particularly hard theme (e.g. organic faces/heads are what I had in mind - they're particularly hard and it would be nice to continually loop back to a facial texture to see people's progression on faces over time and pick up new tricks). |

i agree about *.OBJ files, i really don't see any problems, maybe just that people forget to load the importobj mll script in maya.
so i obviously like the idea, and i think that a spaceship model would be a good type of model to use and it would be pretty easy to add your own original touch to it i think. |

Just a few ideas floating around my head.
As for models being supplied, if you see something on the forum that you think would be perfect for an STC, maybe you should just pm the artist and see if they would mind it being used. Would save a lot of time for the mods and would increase the variety of projects in the STC. Or even set up a job in a special access thread of the modcontractor.

Sci-fi metal textures would be neat (think of natural selection and doom3
)

![]() I'll work something out for next weeks STC. Probably a street prop like a garbage can advertisement board, unless i can figure out a way to get a decent head model that we can use for this...
