A good idea might be to make the next challenge a little restricting. For Example, have it be a 256x256 texture diffuse, normal, etc. No bigger.

This would truely make the artist appreciate working with those large texture sizes, that barely are seen in the industry except maybe on characters. =)

Just a thought.

Susia, Tiros,

I think you have both made very good points, on one hand its great to have the freedom to experiment and make your own creative decisions with a piece, but on the other hand its also challenging and very useful to a new artist to be given a set of specifications to adhere to (and more true to industry.)

So why not have both? You could either have two winners one using specifications, one free to do as they want. Or alternate from one method to the other in the different competitions.

And my view on the Zbrush argument.. At the end of the day surly an employer isn't going to care how you created a piece just whether or not it looks good?! As an artist you should choose the method that best suits the task.

Sounds like a really neat idea JStrey, I'll see what I can do for the future competitions

What about a race car of sorts? A rally car, or something similar...

Maybe we need new comps, like SpeedSculpting
And for next comp, what about water tower or something indastrial?

yeah following on with titus' idea, like one of those big mechanical drills (sorry for my lack of technical knowledge) or those huge saw's that you hold with two hands, or the jaws of life.

i also think that all textures for everyone should be set- say at 1024x1024 or 2048x2048

Thanks for the suggestions guys

As for the speed-sculpting comps.. it's been discussed before, but I don't think there'll be one in the near future I'm afraid.

That's pretty much the sizes people are using already

Cheers!
