my crits:

marcus - looks like you did a pretty good job on the bricks. they couldve used a bit more texture to it, as it seems that for the post part youve just put in a few texture overlays that basically add only color. putting in some interesting splotches or varying hues/lightness of individual bricks could push it even further. as for the metal.. it seems as though you're going for a "brushed" look, which is fine, but it leaves too much room empty. the metal seems a bit rushed and couldve used a bit more wear as if it would receive if placed near brick as it is (dust, stains, rust, etc). in regards to the bottom bricks, i cant tell if it was moss or leaves that you were going for there.. but if it were leaves, id say that should be left up to maybe a few planes that are alpha'd (i know u couldnt do that for a texturing comp.. but just for future reference).

mdale (my vote) - great job overall. im really diggin the fluid design on the pipes.. would be really neat to see that animate. the bricks look good, but my only issue is the drip texture you've put on there. it looks too overlayed with no regard to the shape/height/depth of the bricks. maybe shortening that up a bit couldve made it look a bit better. the transition from brick to metal could also use some work. if the metal were as grunged as it is, the bricks at that area would show the same all over.. in some areas, they dont. i really like how you changed it up and added the stripes to the metal. only minor thing is maybe it couldve used a bit more wear n tear. i noticed youve got it peeling away in some areas, but that looks like just a basic 0 or 1 transition.. including the greys in a mask for that would help it feel more worn, as if parts were beginning to come off.

smackshow - the brick texture is looking pretty good. it could use a bit more variance is i described in marcus's crit. the spec seems way too high on them tho, which is odd because the spec map barely shows the edges lit at all.. tho the left bricks seem to be gleaming. dunno. the metal looks nice.. perhaps a bit too saturated, but i like the discoloration and wear on it.

doodles - once again, same crit on the bricks. they are just looking a bit too uniform and "boring". the metal pipes could use a bit more work, as they look like just a solid color right now. for the horizontal stripes, they could use some wear n tear. masking away at edges n corners would make it feel a bit worn, and also the yellow seems a bit too saturated.

jr_walker - really nice job. i like the metal a lot, and the bricks look great. only thing really negative is the pattern on the wall. for something modular, it wouldnt be recommended to repeat something so distinct so often. maybe placed once or twice in different areas as a decal would be nice, but embedding something like that into texture makes it (oh its a mayan calendar) too repetitive. the pipe piece looks really good at the top, but as it goes down it looks like you got kind of bored .. it doesnt look like its getting the same grungy love as the rest.

overall great job on all of these.. wish i couldve had the time to enter. til next time.

Oniram: actually i think i can have done better than this, but I have done it with the spirit of a quick texture contest, beggin it, spent some hours & submit the entry, next time i do the thing in the right way (I have even forget to enable the shadow in the parameter of the real time shader of the wall... )

I voted for Doolodes! He only had a few hours to compete, and has a really solid base texture layout. I am convinced he would have posted something really great if given more time.

@Oniram: Thanks for the crits man! There isnt enough of that on here. I totally agree on all points, and am glad you liked it!

@Nymuz: I wanted you to compete! My rival! Haha. Hope to see you next time.

Congratulations, mdale13! Very nice work I especially like how all the different areas of grime had a very consistent feel to them. Well deserved!

Great work to everybody who participated and entered There were some very unique takes on megalmn2000's model! Keep your tools sharp, because there are alot more competitions to enter, and alot more battles to win!
