If I have time I'll enter this one. The model looks real nice.

Any chance we could get the high poly model? The AO bake is rather noisy and is just leaving an unwanted look on my texture.

@CYoung : Unfortunately, the hipoly model is not available for this texturing challenge. Maybe a slight blur and some smudging in prominent areas could help remove the unwanted look?

Everyone feel free to post your WIPs here in this thread

Yes, this is a competition, and I know everyone wants others to be surprised by their awesome texture come voting time, but posting WIPs is also a great way to learn new things by exchanging tips and trick with your fellow artists. These comps are not just about fame and glory, but also about progressing as an artist while networking in a friendly competitive setting

At any rate, have fun and try something new!
Cheers

Thumbs up

Hey all I'm new here, and this is going to be my first game relative contest. This is a really nice model and a great one to train my texturing skills. I have an idea of the look i want, going for a Japanese wooden Zippo kind of style :P Hope it's a bit of an original idea?

I will post a concept soon, a quick 2d concept over the original presentation of the telescope, for the materials and it's positions. Thought it could be a good way to quickly find out combinations and balance before working with the real textures. Don't know if this is a known approach? Or is it mostly directly texturing and checking out ways?

Well good luck everyone!

Here is a 2d texture concept to show "roughly" what i have in mind (carried away a bit in 2D though :P). Further on i want to fix on details, but i try to do that in the real texturing phase. Like in the leather parts (not all complete in the concept) there should be the ornaments of the original etc. And i plan on doing some extra ornaments over all, don't know what places precisely jet.
I hope you like the main idea, a (weathered) wooden telescope with brushed copper and leather parts.

C&C is always welcome!

Nice concept. I've always been a big fan of wooden telescopes. It adds an antique-y element that I've always adored. Keep it up and have fun!

Cheers

Hey guys! Decided to enter. Excellent model!

Here is what I have so far. Just the base textures laid down with the AO and normal map applied. No spec yet. Looking forward to getting into this! Good luck everyone, happy holidays!
