To clarify!
I was like Doylle, I bet you can't beat me with "A walk to remember" as poster, he said sure. I then thought the poster was lame for the movie and since he was such a good sport, I picked Bladerunner! He had his opportunity! He said he wanted more of a challenge so I gave him one of the worst movies of all time, Glitter ! Which he executed well ![]() Unfortunately I'm going to have to riddle his style will bulletholes to take the big "W" over his piece... entry 2! ![]() MAPS / VIDEO (NOW UPLOADED) ![]() Last edited by requiem2d; 27-01-2008 at 06:31 AM. |

hell we should do this more often! Love the new submission!don't forget to post your maps k? (oh, small note, it's STC #7 )/Edit: It's not about how long you take to setup your render, it's about how long it takes to render the image if i'm not mistaking... either way, render time is included. Here's my first, I plan on doing one of each.
I figured I'd pick a theme and keep it in all of them, so here's Apps I use ![]() Here's a newly installed as well as a billboard that has seen several years of sun and rain. ![]() ![]() ![]() For some reason Mental ray messed up half of the bottom piece... dunno why, and Maya software renderer looks bad with out a lot of work, and I couldn't cheat 'cause GiJoe wasn't installed. I started by making a clean, then dirtied it up, used crazybump, but did the actual billboard and the grating separately and pasted them over the regular normal/spec maps. Pic came off of Pixelogic's site, no credited artist tho. Used photobase for metal, tried my hand at painting rust, got a good idea how to make some nice looking rust- however it took the entire texture before I had figured that out and didn't feel like redoing it. |

Look at it this way, it's more abstract advertising. It's not directly telling what the product/service is. It's only useful if a large amount of people can associate the advertisement to the product. Macdonalds can get away with showing only it's logo because you'd recognize it, along with millions others, If EA marketed Ao2 like that, only people familiar enough to recognize the characters would have any clue. Generally not effective advertising except to a small group of people.
For example I saw some concept billboards for Mustangs (the car) while looking for ref. The billboard consisted of only clear resin that gave a motion blur to the image behind it. There was a logo of the mustang like that on the car but that was it. While cool and abstract and possibly better at getting noticed than most traditional advertisements, the viewer has to relate the logo to the car. Practical for most people in the US, but not in places where people have never seen a mustang/mustang logo. Fine for game art, but I probably wouldn't hire req for advertisement design Stick to game art Req.Last edited by Corsair970; 24-01-2008 at 05:45 PM. |

Actually, I've seen many companies use this technique to bring out a no-name product. The reason being is that it broadens the audience as they are often more curious then blind as to what the advertisement is about. Sure this concept is still in it's infancy but the little I've seen of it has been successful. However, back to is it advertising or not, yes it is! Even has a release date on it!
Back on topic fellas! |
