Gah! I'm definitely out of shape, modelling once per 3 months definitely doesn't help you model faster. Keeping up with the timelimit was quite a major problem for me, I guess I'll have to do at least one model per each SMC. Anyway here we go, the MPG CompactSentry Type A:

Workflow was basically setting up the reference and then creating primitives and editing those. The fronts of the barrels are - don't kill me - booleaned cylinders, completely unoptimized (as can be said pretty much about everything here) due to the time limit. The ammo belt was done using a spline, a simple shell model made using lathe and the duplicate tool.

The designs this is based on can be seen here:

Sorry to go off topic, but are you the MagNet from a few years ago on FP?

I made a second entry, just because I was bored

The idea is from Zer0.be. The concept art was made by one of my colleagues here at the office.

The idea was to make at least 2 of those creatures, but Zer0.be was too buzzy with work, so I was on my own here.

Hello there, just started studying at an game graphics university so figured i'd start to hang at places such as this. Since I've only worked in maya for a week (got previous experience in 3dsmax tho) I'm going to attend to these speed modelling challenges to improve my maya skills

Here comes my first entry!

Edit:
Lols, just noticed that the two highest pipes are way off scale. Also I forgot to erase some of the grey in order to reveal the whole leg of the sentry gun. AH WELL, 90min time limit, I'll be sure to pay more attention in next challenge

here's mine~

modelled in blender, Not using too many primitives to give it a better shape. Most primitives in there have been messed with, so they don't look very 'primitivical' Took me the full 90 minutes to make this piece of metal crap...

hey everybody,

good to be back to the SMC's! I did a sentry inspired by the quake2 railgun ( which was pretty awesome back in the day!). Anyway here are the viewport grabs:

workflow:

- Basically i searched on google ref pics for the railgun and started from there.

- The railgun started from a tweaked cylinder, followed by a couple of extrusions and some beveling to smooth things out, overall i just tried to get that railgun look to it, then just had to duplicate it 2x so it would seem like a bigger and more badass gun :P

- the Hull started from a box, smoothed, and cut in half, then extruded and stretched some parts so it would surround the railguns a bit more.

- the things holding the hull started as pipes then extruded some "arms" out of it to grab the hull, both in the front and back.

- Because the sentry has to rotate 360º i had to give it a single leg attached to a "turn-table" on the ground. The leg is again made out of pipes and extruded faces. Some geometry was duplicated and mirrored.

- The turn-table was kinda improvised, cause i was running out of time so i basically did a thing that would be able to rotate the entire sentry 360º. Started out from a cylinder then applied some extrusions to give it a better , non-completely symmetrical cylinder kinda look.

and we have a sentry
