nothing keeps you from doing it. you can't win anything here anyways, as the contest's purpose mainly lies in gaining experience, if i'm not mistaken. tbh, you might even get more feedback if you open your own wip thread

Statue of Liberty
![]() Its not great, really wanted to mess with it in ZBrush but textures.. even normals, not allowed, and the tri limit so no hi-poly allowed ![]() Chosen because, I really couldnt think of an RTS style landmark that would take me 100 minutes to complete. 999 tris 100 minutes Top left of the image shows an RTS view of the model so you can kinda see what it could look like 'in game' Method: - Started with the base, a box, extruded bits out etc etc. - Used a Box again for the main form of the lady, turned on Nurbsmooth and added edges getting the shape how I wanted. - Made a basic head from a box, crown from a circle spline with 0 segments, spikes a single tris. - Torch from a cylinder with 5 sides. - Book is a box - Experimented with fingers but decided that would be something for texturing (and it wasnt working how I liked) - Added the robe from a plane, giving the form a bit more shape because without normals, it looked a bit flat - Finally Collapsed the NurbSmooths I'd used and removed edged trying to get from 1500 to the 1000 tri limit ![]() --- There you go people, I've set the bar pretty low so lets see more entrys! I love little RTS things. good luck!(...and try to be more adventurous than StoneHenge )Also, good theme this week! |

Pretty neat competition, I think I picked a too easy to model building though, seeing as I finished in 90 minutes, modeling pretty slow and sitting around some of the time. Even my breakfast and coffe were included in that time, that's why the submission says ~80 min.
Anyhow, it's the Dome of the Rock. There's things and arches missing, but the tri-limit didn't allow me to go any further. The tricount is at 944 triangles. ![]() Might give this a second try and go for a more complicated model ![]() As for the workflow. I found a blueprint of it on google. Put it on a plane in max, modeled pieces of one wall section and simply rotated a copy of it 180*, then rotate that one 45* 3 times and the walls are pretty much done. After that I just used some primitives and created the roof, nothing complicated there really, just extruding and optimizing all the way ![]() /edit: forgot the photo: ![]() Cheers!

sorry Addi I did the Statue of Liberty also
i assumed someone else would do it anyways.![]() Here is my model. 996 tri. I used all the time. I started with a Base mesh i made in 3ds max in less than 15 min. I Imported that into z brush with the intent of doing a quick sculpt and then re-topologizing. I realized that would take too long and was totally unnecessary. I ended up just polycrunching the mesh down and then tweaking some of the edges and cleaning the model up. then i aded the final bits like the torch and the platform. Workflow shot |

Reference Images:
![]() ![]() Render Shot: ![]() Fun Attempt, i Started with a box and sphere for the head, boxed out the legs and planted feet as seperate objects then formed the head. it is difficult to model a face w/o a nose, i'm probably just not used to it but made sure to include the hole left from whoever or whatever caused the nose to fall off. good luck to everybody's entries. |
