Hey, I'm first. This was a great idea for speed comp; it was a real challenge to work against the clock. Unfortunately I didn't have time to work in some of the important elements. Maybe I'll take another shot at it later.

Not much to talk about in the workflow. I made a lot of cubes and cylinders.

heres my entry- glad to get it over and done with

if i had more time i could go into a bit more detail and depth but i think i did okay.
i used up the whole time limit of 100 mins.

3ds max 9

Technique-
For the main body/shell of the lift i started out with a plane and sculpted it from that.
I have no clue if the width is right- i had an excellent side on reference but not from the front so i did a bit of guesswork there. the structural bits- the metal frames were splines with thickness.

body - plane - 542 tris
tyres- cylinders - 2768 tris
chair- box - 90 tris
wires- splines - 144 tris
steering wheel - cylinder - 138 tris
lifting area itself - box - 184 tris
structural frame - splines - 276 tris
(roof 2 tris)
-------------------------------Total Tri's: 4282--------------------------------------------

Hi all !!! here is my vision of forklift truck

Truck modeling time - 100 min
Triangles count - 6838

HowTo:
At first i create body and wheels for understanding size and proportions of model, than i start to add some small elements (because they give model some realistic kind) but most of all primitives are box, cylinder, sphere etc. no blueprint used only photo reference. And about render, i create one fast shaded render (i use MentalRay and new MR fast materials) and than i render default grey mats+grey+wire frame (by this tut http://www.game-artist.net/forums/tu...rial-max9.html), For scene lightning i use Daylight system(mrSun,mrSky). I use 3dsmax 2009 sp1 . Thats all

Many thanks !!!

Yea well I got bored and figured what the hell, might try out one of these comps.

This is my dunelift. Half Dune Buggy, half forklift. Didn't really try, and had no idea what I was doing.

So here she be:

How I made this crappy thing:
Opened Blender, took the default cube, started extruding. Subdivided a bit, then kept extruding. Made half the vehicle, then copied and mirrored the other half. I wish I could be more detailed but I don't even remember how I made it.

Made the rear axle and suspension from extruding a tube out of the rear. Added in the tires and wheels, and rendered.

Aren't you supposed to only submit one image, with both wireframe and clay-render?

I think this contest would have more variety if it was 'Construction Vehicles', instead of just Forklifts.
