The speed comps have never been strict about these things. Still, it would be nice if everyone else would read the rules.

Eh, this is the first time I've ever even been in a speed comp thread, read the rules just didn't really didn't understand it.

But yea, I fixed my picture to fit in the guidelines. Ha, I really should have went back and lowered the poly count, I have a ton of unused polys there in the block of the forklift.

Yea, it would have been more interesting I think.

Alrighty, my first speed modeling challenge! This was interesting, I've never looked this closely at forklifts before.

I box-modeled almost everything, beveled some edges here and there, used a few bend modifiers. It was pretty straight-forward. I've never modeled a wheel like this before, so I'm not completely happy with that, but I did learn from it. And I didn't even get to the big tall pieces on the front of the forklift, so it's incomplete. I'm still happy with how much I got done in 100 minutes though- the time really flies by!

Took 100 mins, (Max2008)
Based on the Toyota 1 1/2 ton lifter, it really does look like a toy.

mostly box modeled, extrude and bevel, used turbo-smooth on the bottom of the body to get the round shapes. Possibly formed the top of the body the hard way and spent too much time on it.

7570 tris could prolly get that down but ran out of time.

I didnt notice till Id finished that the back wheels should have been smaller.

Here's my entry to this months contest

I take a few min before I start and analize the object, where its best to start and with what? Started with the biggest piece and then move on to detailng. Generally I go from biggest to smallest piece. Some more detailed areas have smoothing and bevels but I went over the top on the propane tank. I might compile this as a source model. I'm pleased with the result whatever the outcome of this contest will be.

Well guys and gals, believe it or not, this is the first model I have ever produced in any 3D software aside from a crate and a silhouette of a car. I used XSI 6.01 to model it, but I have no idea how to do good lighting or get good renders so bare with me. I look forward to learning many things and entering more of these comps! ENJOY!

I did think about going for construction vehicles, but in the end just went with forklift trucks. I'll try and thinkg of something for next weeks comp to give people more freedom, though to be honest with last weeks propeller challenge, people had pretty much complete freedom over what they could make, which I thought people would like, but there weren't that many entries.

I'm not too strict on the rules. Having just the one image is convenient for me when I do the poll because I'm lazy.
