Ah I see, thanks Tiros. Ive seen in some games a parts of an object showing under another... hang on that doesnt make sense
here's an example: A wooden axe handle showing through the blade of the axe even though it is not supposed to be transparent. Is this the result of floating mesh, or does it happen with closed mesh too? (I saw this in a new game with a new engine) |

"Airship Concept", concept by Mercenary-Artist
"Airship Concept", concept by Mercenary-Artist
Model was made according to concept art found on DeviantArt: http://mercenary-artist.deviantart.com/art/Airship-Concept-86368980 (Unfortunately, there is only 404 there). The proportions aren't exactly the same, but I'm pleasured with the result. ![]() ![]() Everything was made from cylinders and boxes, converted to Editable Poly and then manipulated. Ropes were made from splines using simple Sweep modifier. The splines were extracted from mesh edges. Given propeller is at the rear. Top propellers are the modified versions of the rear one (one blade was flattened and scaled then copied 4 times). Rendered with quick mental ray setup. |

![]() Here's my entry: ![]() I did some quick sketches of my idea then modled it in Silo using boxes and cylinders. I got a bit carried away with the feet and over all the Poly count seams a bit high. But I have fun doing it. |

This is my entry, i use the propellers to make the fans in my hovercraft, the hovercraft is a LCAC Army one.
This was quite a challenge, as there was alot of detail, so i left some out as i did not have enough time. it was quite lucky fo the model that there was alot of symmetry so i could mirror alot of things saving time. i also kept and cylinder and a box around, and just cloned them to save time. Most parts are made from boxs and cilinders, and the just cut as needed. ![]() ![]() |

Here's my entry!
![]() It's a terrible (in my opinion) remake of those cylindrical hover pad things from the old Johnny Quest show. (Yes, I used to watch that show, loved it.) Anyway, back to the contest. I modeled it by starting with a tube and turned it into the main shroud. For the metal grating, I used the connect tool on 4 adjacent edges and created a rectangle, then I sized it to my liking and connected it 128 times long ways, and 86 short. Which is what caused the polygon count to skyrocket. As for the two smaller ducts, same as the main one. Tube, and then modified it. The metal cage around it was created with a spline. I made an 1/8th of it, then turned it into a tube, went to editable poly mode, put a symmetry modifier on it, then cloned it around 3 times. Same with the steering wheel, just not as complex. I felt I didn't use my time as well as I could have. Mostly because that metal grating took so long to figure out, and my computer was going sluggish during the edge connecting stage. That's about it, comments and criticism welcome!

Hey yo!
Workflow: Basic shape Modeling. - Cylinder around the Propeller, deleted the inside faces and closed off the gap. - Hammock itself was a poly plane, with vertices manipulation - Ropes are more cylinders. - Kept it very simple this time around. PS. Thanks Craig for additional d/l link. I was having problems with the first one. Hammock Propeller ![]()
