the concept was based on the destroyed ED-209, I did have some illusions that I could a half damaged head in the time frame, but of course not. but I think its worked out well. I used a lot of boxes and cylinders to make it look detailed, the smoke is just cones with noise modifiers, and a noise maps. I wanted to tweak the map a bit more but ran out of time.

This was my own design bomb disposal Robot, i was going for detail more than a complicated shape that is why i have a wild poly count, it is about one of the only time i dont have to worry about polys.

the track was made starting with a box then shaping it in to a track piece, then copied it 90 times attached them, created a line for the track to follow then used the PathDeform tool to create the track.
the rest of the model was made from simple objects ciliders spheres and box, i always only start with one segment and cut the object as and when i need detail. the pipe on the robot were done using lines and setting the to show in the render!

Sentry Bot

Hi all. This is the first time I have ever entered one of these comps but it looked like fun so thought I would give it a go.
Inspiration came from Johnny 5 (short circuit) and was made mostly with extruded cylinders and boxes with a few lofted shapes for the pipes. (used Max btw)
Loads more I would like to do but just not enough time.
Anyway I hope you like it. I do plan to finish with textures etc, so would welcome any comments or crits.

Cheers G

I'm pretty rusty so i decided to do something easy. Not much other than spheres and cylinders here, started to lowpoly so I smoothed it.

wow, that's really nice work, the detail is amazing, especially the treads. it's stuff like that that really makes me want to model more so I can get that good eventually =]

Hey guys! I had some time tonight and I thought I'd model another robot for the challenge! Hope you like it! =]

Workflow:

Torso - Sphere that had the top separated (to use for head). The top section was sunk down in (bevel tool)
Head - I used the top of the torso's sphere geometry that I separated, duplicated and rotated it. The eyes are modified cylinders. The neck is a line that I turned into an EditPoly to modify.
Arms/Hands - The forearm started as a cylinder. The fingers are modified (FFD 2x2x2) capsules. The upper arm is a cylinder and the socket connector is a sphere. The arm support that runs the length of his back is an arc that I turned into an EditPoly to modify.
Legs/Feet - THe socket is a sphere. The upper leg is a cylinder. The shin section was a continuation of the forearm section, it was modified by manipulating vertices.

I used 3DS Max to model with.

Hi all!
I've thought that challenge ends after 8th June (i.e. including 8th June, not excluding), so I've leaved it until sunday=) But nevermind, there is my try:

Working process:
Box, Cylinders, Spheres, Edit Poly, Symmetry. Extrude, Connect, Chamfer, Cut, Bridge.

Ah sorry about that. I should probably have a definite ending time. I usually just close the thread after I've got on the computer on sunday. I reckon from now on I'll do it until 15:00 GMT, though I'll have to work that out for other timezones.

Really nice concept for your model, I like your final render aswell, did you do that in max?
