Hey guys! This is my first time entering anything into a contest on the site. I decided to go easy for my first entry. I modeled one of my favourite robots - Gir from Invader Zim. Improvements? Comments? Let me know what you think!

Workflow:

Head - Capsule that was cut in half and added an FFD 2x2x2 to re-shape quickly
Eyes - Cylinders that have been scaled down at one end
Antenna - Cylinder that I added an FFD 2x2x2 to shape, created a curving line to be used along with PathDeform to give the cylinder its curve. The end of the antenna is just a sphere.
Torso - I used a capsule and shaved some polys off the top. I scaled it to get its shape. The shoulders are just spheres.
Arms/Hands - I used a cylinder, added a FFD 2x2x2 to shape it, created a curving line to be used along with PathDeform to give the cylinder its curve; the wrists are just scaled spheres; the hands started as cubes, I extruded the two clamps and scaled them. Everything was then mirrored over to the other side.
Legs - I used a cylinder, added a FFD 2x2x2 to shape it, created a curving line to be used along with PathDeform to give the cylinder its curve, I then mirrored the leg over to the other side.

3DS Max was used for modeling!

Actully, those pictures that he used were just examples that he didn't make (he was just asking if he could make something like those).

OK here it is ppl!

the cables and tubes are wires and tubes created with the help of the autogrid tool, the head was a playaround of a sphere, and the feet are lines.
I had to rush the head and body cos the arm took me a long time to make. There was supposed to be much more detail there.

I have made the upper arm from a cylinder with shell, meshsmooth, and FFD(cyl) modifiers, and just made holes on the cylinder. they look cool i hope

nice pieces so far ppl!

Just a side note, that's my first character work, so laugh ahead.

Here's my entry, I wish I could have finished the arms and added some Rivets.

I started with a sphere, and beveled some edges to create the extrusions along the side, I then drew the edges around the center "eye" peice, beveled them, then pushed them back. Cannon was just a cylinder with several extrusions, and the back and center peice started as cubes. Getting the size correct proved to be a challenge, and in the end I never completely finished them anyway, so I can't be too angry.
