I put the Xsi scene of the pit droid above on my site and you all can download it and use as you see fit.

The pit droid is an extremelly impressive piece of work. I see you've also previously worked on an R2 & a C3PO. As already mentioned, Star Wars is the perfect place to get ideas from.

I barely made it, had to regrettably leave some things uncompleted...But I basically started off from a large cylinder, then bevels, some small cylinders, copy and paste. I had to ride the Star Wars vibe going on in the challenge! Enjoy!

Since I'm relatively new here, please allow me to write a generic comment...I must say that I'm enjoying everyone's work!

Well, I can't really answer for Craig, seeing as he runs the comp and therefore sets the rules. But according to me I think it should be alright really.

It might be controlled by a human.. but it's afterall just a big robot which you sit in

So, not sure what Craig will say about this, so might want to wait until he answers unless you really want to do one, but I'd say it would be valid

Cheers!

I started with a torus ring for the shoulder pad, added a ffd 3x3x3 modifier, scaled it, I then made a copy and scaled that down to fit inside of it self for the more inner shoulder peice. Then mirrored it, bridged it, I then copied that and and made it the pelvis. I went back to shoulder part and I extruded the hood peice and put the "camera eyes" in which are just cylinders. The body part under the shouldrs was also a cylinder. The arms were cylinders with chamfered edges and beveled polys to give it a gear type of look. These were copied for all the limbs. The foot was made by an extruded box, the hand is also a variation of the foot in order to save time. The thigh guard was made from a chamfer box with a bend modifier and and some soft select pulling. The piston waist area is obviously cylinders also, also msmoothed where obvious as well. I do like this model however I didnt get to finish I wanted to add a piston to back of the calf. I also wanted to add a bullet belt that came out of the back to the gatling gun. I think I'll follow through with this model I think it's a really good start and has some potential. I usually just reference pix off the web for a model but I decided to design my own this time. Any c/c welcome.
