![]() ![]() Software: Maya 7 Details: Paper Wrapper - I started with a cylinder and then selected every other vertical edge, and scaled them down a bit to get the folds. I then used the "cut faces" tool to create horizontal cuts near the top and bottom, then scaling down the vertices a bit to make it tapered. Frosting - I started with a nurbs sphere and applied a twist modifier to it (since Maya's modifiers don't work on Polygon shapes). I then converted to polygons, deleted the bottom half of the sphere, selected every other spiral edge loop, and scaled them down a bit to get the "whipped cream" look. Sprinkles - I started with a flat cylinder, duplicated it 15 times, placed each one above the frosting, and used Maya's dynamics to apply "gravity" to the sprinkles and "collision" to the frosting. Maya then automatically calculates the physics involved and animates them falling by simply hitting the "play" button. Candle & Plate - These are basic cylinders with simple extrusions. |

Uber... I absolutely love your cake. Awesome job!
![]() Latinmessiah, thanks for the detailing on how you modeled yours. I know 3ds Max has reactor to fool with, but I don't know if I could get the scenes together quick enough to make use of them in this kind of comp... Looks really good! ![]() |

@ latinmessiah: beautiful stuff. the edges of the frosting are a bit sharp though. Amazing how you did the sprinkles. I never even thought about using physics simulation in a speedmodeling competition.

latinmessiah- I'm impressed as well, that was a great idea using gravity to lay out your sprinkles. Good idea using the twist on the nurbs sphere as well. This is just full of good ideas. Although, I've got to admit, I am a bit disappointed seeing a cupcake instead of a cake. It reminds me of getting a cupcake for my own birthday. You're just kind of like, "oh".

Great idea Latinmessiah, when I saw the sprinkles I was like 'He used physics to get those like that' and you did.
![]() The cupcake is a good model, nice techniques on the whipped cream and paper wrapper.
