Bah... I'm not really happy with the result... I guess I wasn't in the mood or something
I didn't bother to research and this was the main problem... Next time I'll put a lot more time in this begging part of a project... Do you want a tip? Research something before you start modeling :P I just found a pic I liked and started modeling. When I was half way done I realized the pic wasn't showing everything and I didn't really know how the mechanism worked... so I was stuck with improvising and the result might look cool but I don't think something like this will actually work Anyway... good modeling practice, and I did learn something ![]() Here it is: ![]() And the video. Enjoy!

OK this looks fun
![]() Let me give you a tip, make the rope at the top that is connected to the bamboo/wood tight. Then add a long stick coming out of the cylinder with the rope wrapped around it, Anyway cant wait to have a go at this ![]()

Bah, I'm not happy with my entry at all.. Is it your self-criticism being contagious Andrei?
![]() Well, I'll most likely give tis a second try! And I'm not going to model a damn ballista that time.. impossible to find a good ref for a heavy-looking siege ballista >_< ![]() Hope next one will be better *nods*

Thanks myles... I'll just consider it a friendly siege weapon used just to intimidate You place it in front of the castle and wait to see what happens :PYep Zeinthar, it's contagious But it looks like it's a lot better then mine is Love the wheels on it, the only thing that looks "bad" is that thing where the arrow is places... at the base. And maybe the fact that I can't see a triggering mechanism... but overall it does look like it can do some damage I'm thinking of making another one as well... just for fun... hope I have time next week ![]()

OK,
Took 70 minutes, and im still no where near happy with it, you need to extend the time to 90 minutes. I think people will agree? Anyway- 5000 Polygons ![]() ![]()

![]() Best contest yet! its a real challenge, these things are tricky to model in time, especially trebuchets, their filled with ropes, but i did what i could under the time limit. i Guess this is the first time i didn't get where i wanted to go with my model, feels awesome actually ![]() Name: Vamediah Model Name: Trebuchet Time: 57 minutes Triangles: 2456 Rendering: Maxwell 1.5, 40 minutes Process: Not very complicated. i used the primitive boxes and just stretched them out for most of the basic structure. the tightening base at the back with the two branch like things where created with the "Create Polygon Tool". so basically this is all boxes and some cylinders. the challenge is making the proportions correct, allot of tweaking for me in the beginning. here's a wire also: ![]() this was awesome, I'm going to keep working on this model, adding the ropes and everything, it think it will look pretty sweet. ![]() |

Zenithar: Your model looks great, especially the weels and the metal parts
. It just the lack of a firing mechanism, like Andrei mentioned, that its lacking. still i really like your model ![]() Myles: your model looks good in a cartoony way. if i was to critizese anything it would be the poly count, seems like you could have saved some time if it was lower. and i really dont think that the time needs to be changed, at 60 minutes, its a great challenge, you have to decide where to put your time and what to ignore, i like it ![]() Last edited by Vamediah; 21-07-2007 at 10:42 AM.
