Well this time was a little easier to vote I'm not saying that you guys didn't do a good job, I really like most of the entries.
Vamediahs entry seems to have a lot of detail, nice presentation and it's a really impressive entry for the time he had. I guess it feels like that because how big it is; although there are a lot of repetitive things there it doesn't feel repetitive. The extra touches like the $ sign and the lights really make it stand out.

Some solid entries here guys. Well done all

Vamediah was first for me because of the sheer size and detail of his entry.

veNoM sNaKe is second imo. A nice, solid entry. I'm not fond of the halftone overlay, though.

Zeinthar
is a close third, simply because his mesh is clean and well presented. It could have done with some more assets / cloning to make it look more filled.

Great stuff everyone

Tough Standards

I look at two things when I pick my vote...

1. What is the poly count?

This is after all a GAME modeling site. I can't justify picking an entry that has a poly count that is in the 10,000 plus area.

2. Did the artist use polygons efficiently?

Anyone can create a nice looking model if they jack the poly count through the roof.

I realize my cry may fall on deaf ears seeing as there IS a low poly competition as well, but I still think it is good practice to try and keep you poly count low even when on a time crunch. Just something for everybody to think about.

Totally agree with what you're saying here. We don't have a polycount limit because this isn't a lowpoly competition. Hipoly models are still a part of game art and this is more and more seen everywhere. But this is not an excuse to add a mesh smooth modifier on a poorly modeled mesh and call it art. It's good practice to learn how to use your tris efficiently. This is not the case with the entries here... all are well modeled, there is a waste off course... this was done fast. Anyway... good to see that Vamediah has competition

Putz, you say that, but I don't think a game dev would give you 13k tris for a casino cards table, mate.

Like Andrei says, it's a speed comp, not a low poly comp. I think it might be a idea if we could have a tri limit on one of the comps one week, just to add to the stress

Other than that, I'd like to apologise as I didn't see your entry when I originally posted. I don't think the image loaded up. I'd have put you 2nd / 3rd because your model is nicely made and is quite densely detailed. Good stuff

went for Zeinthar this time, he wants one of those medals really bad! His entries get better every week too

Modeling wise there isnt much to seperate the entries but I chose this one mainly because of the nice presentation but its just nicely laid out as a scene, not just a close up of the wheel

the way i see it, since you cant use textures you have to make up for them with your mesh. And with next gen games having character models of 19 million polygons (i read that Gears of war had that, but i could be mistaken)... i think that beeing a bit above 10000 polys is reasonable

I voted for warape because the chips are made well and the cigarette in glass oozes style =]

Vamediah would be my second choice.

Haha, thanks Alchemist

And of course I do! But I don't want to have it just out of pure pity either, I want to deserve it
