I have recorded my entry this comp, (Which is rendering as I write, and I show going into adding the skylight-->advanced lighting ect), although this is not much use to Maya/Modo/Blender...ect users. Also I think that GI should be allowed, as to enter a comp, even a fun little thing like this, you should have a certain level of complacency. If you can actually model any of these ideas, then you must have had wips at some point, and therefore know about clay rendering.
Anyway It never hurts to ask how to do it. This is for learning, yes? Then ask what you don't understand, and I for one will help to the full extents of my knowledge. Clays are a must, so things can be seen nice. ![]() |

I personally like clay renders too, they give it that much more personality then a screendump of the viewport. However, if we would want to standardize this we will have to make a rule about the background color and the material color. If we don't standardize those you get the problem again that people do the renders in different ways, which doesn't help the rating process.
EDIT: You could always put this link in the topic: http://www.3dnuts.com/tutorials/render_wip.shtml Problem being that if you want to make a wire render and a normal one a must, then the non Max users might not know what to do, as has been suggested before. :-/ Last edited by DeV; 05-09-2007 at 04:10 PM. |

As I said, I'd like to give people the freedom to add a logo, their name and whatever information they feel is necessary... and also let them place it wherever they want. Depending on the composition you have going there the text might look normal in another place. Also... they style of the model can be very different even if we make the same thing. Look at the cartoonish windmills we have in the current comp Let's have some fun. I'd say that bringing the models to the same level is ok for now.Quote:

As I said... people can post what they did after 2-3h, you can still post a GI render but for the entry I need a screenshot that was done after 60 minutes. I'd say this pleases everybody... and the voting will take place in the same conditions. If at some point everybody starts to make GI renders we'll set that as a standard... for now you can do it to show your work as best as you can. This is too long... I'll make a shorter one soon to present the main idea behind this long post ... soon

If you like andrei313, I have a friend who has Maya, and a friend who has XSI, and I have 3ds max. So I could accumulate a "Clay" style render tutorial for all these packages. Then if you like you can sticky it in this forum. That way everyone can be happy.
As for Blender and others, I can look into it and see what I can come up with. ![]() |

Sure. For now we will have to go with viewport screenshots but cley renders can still be posted. If we get a big number of people that have cley renders I'd say we can make that a standard for the comp. For that to happen people will need to learn how to do it and a first step would be some tutorials
![]() EDIT: I would post those in the tutorial section, all in one thread so that everybody can access them easily, not only for this competition. And I will link in the rules to that thread ![]()

Guys, we're still having renders in the competition... I don't want to point my finger at anyone. I want everybody to be relaxed, have fun and learn something.
ragupasta did a wonderful job with the Multi-Platform Clay Wip Renders (thanks a lot for this) so with this said we're going back to GI renders for the next competition. It's something that everybody should learn and in time I'm sure it will become a standard here. It's the best way to show your work so you can receive good crits. I'm not a dictator here so if you feel different just post and we'll talk about it ![]()

Because of some... technical problems the voting for #6 - Wind Mill will be a little different. The Zeppelin might be a little different as well. I can only make a poll with a max of 10 options and for the Wind Mill we have 15 entries
I see this as a very good thing... too bad it can't work the way you are used too. I can't wait till next month when this problem might be solved so I'm going with judges, just like the lowpoly competition. So, if you think you have what it takes to give some comments and to rate the awesome entries we had last week you can be a judge... just give me a PM. I'm looking for at least 3 judges. Thanks

The judging thing went nice but I guess it's too much work the speed modeling we're going with here. So I though of something else that might be cool... just want to know what you think...
Elimination Rounds ![]() In the first round the entries will be split as many times as needed to keep it under 10 per poll. In this round half of the entries will be eliminated leaving the ones that "survive" to take part in the final round that decides the winner I find it cool, do you find it boring and uninteresting ? ![]()
