A winners logo would be nice.
There definately should be modeling and texturing separation Speed texturing with a provided unwrapped model would definately be nice idea, something that other forums do regularly irc. Well if they do cheat, they're only cheating themselves. People just have to be honest, professional, and mature about it imo. |

Well to finish my other post, I think nothing fancy may be done with rendering.
Only a screengrab from your viewport, with a max of 3 lights to bring out the geometry (so you might use no lights at all but the absolute max is 3 lights). This way no one with get an advantage because hey have a better render or a disadvantage because they have a "crappy" render. Simple colors (no textures) should be allowed to make things more clear (in complex models), in my opinion. But most of the time a simple Gray color would be fine I guess. I also think we should have "photoshop templates", like a simple border with textfields that are editeble. So your name, time taken and a brief comp description is givin in those fields. We should also have a fixed size for the submission (800*600 for example). So yet again we will have a fair competition, and only geomtry should be rated. It's speed modelling afterall ![]() |

Sorry for moving your post DeV, I'd like to talk about this here
![]() I will make a rule out of this. A wire and a shaded version must be provided. It is important for us to see the wire so we know how the edges flow and also to see a shaded version to see any problems and also to see how the final model will look. So both will be a must. I'm still not sure about the viewport screenshot. Rendering with GI wires/WIP is suppose to be a standard for a game artist This is how you get people interested in your work and this is how you make it stand out. When the competition started requirem said that a GI render with a wire over it would be nice and I agree with this. But it looks like some people take advantage of that, some don't. I wouldn't want to take this away from the ones that do, and are used to this. I always though that this is a good thing... why restrict it. On the other hand I can't force people to make a GI render... and it's not because of the time it takes (10min... or less), it's because many don't know how. To me it would be a better choice to teach those that don't know... and have all entries presented in a nice way. I can write a mini tutorial for max about how to do that... and maybe others can do it for the other apps we're using here.

That will just complicate things. I'm going with bb0x suggestions.
I also made some kind of template so I can show you how it must look. So here is what I decided (everything is a must )- you must post a wire and shaded version on the model (wire on the left, shaded on the right... to make everything flow ) - you take screenshots of the viewport and place them next to each other in your 2d app- you must write on it how long it took you to model it and also the triangle count. We're not going for lowpoly models but it's nice to know what's there. Every other text is optional: you can write the name of the entry, your name, your logo... but keep it short ![]() - it must be 800x600 - no post production in other programs, no shaders. Just a standard material with a max of 3 lights in the scene. Colors are allowed both on model and lights but no textures. ![]() Any thoughts? Are there too many rules? I don't want people to say... That's too hard... I'm not going to bother and respect so many rules... I won't enter ![]()

Well about th GI, the only thing I want is that this comp is fair. Like you said some people dont know how to do GI so it shouldnt be allowed at all then....
About that template....i think it would be better if you could let people download a pre-made template, with no fancy fonts or anything...what i had in mind is that the text is in the border so you have Maximum size for your wires and shaded model. |
