Speed Modeling Competition 2: Steampunk Blunderbuss

TEXTURE NOW!

--------------------

Just to be clear: this challenge will run to NEXT SUNDAY, 14th of March

Post you wip and final images in this thread. Final image can be a clay render or screenshot us an image of the wires and the uvs. Use the gif format for wires and/or uvs, you'll usually get higher quality and smaller files compared to jpg. If you want, feel free to create a high poly version and use that to bake a normalmap for your lowpoly weapon. You don't have to of course, it's up to you. You do need to unwrap it though since a modeler would pass on an unwrapped asset to a texture artist (which could be you ).

Now go nuts!

Ohh, good to see these have returned. Don't think I will enter this one though. I lack the creativity for steampunk haha xD

Good luck to everyone.

How to join?

I would like to enter this competition. It would be my first. Do I just post my results here?
Do I need to sign up anywhere?

I have Blender, Gmax, and 3-D Game Studio, and I can export to pretty much any format, which format would be best?

I will check back here for a reply, or you can email me mkschmidt30@hotmail.com

I think I might try to join this if I have time. How strict are the rules though? Does it specifically have to be based on the era of that picture (1700's ish) blunderbuss or can it be a little bit later like 1800's. Obviously nothing to futuristic.

I was not going to enter when it first stated it would only be 2 days long, got too many deadlines to finish before GDC. Now that is a week long, I might see what I can do after this weekend is over.

Thought I'd go for the second gun approach - the blunderbuss' secondary fire functions by spitting globules of acid at the user's enemies. Still a lot of reworking to do on the design and trying to keep it 'steampunk-ish' while adhering to the blunderbuss shape

How about having the containers on the side of the gun instead and have the grip for the second hand where they are now?

As long as it has the characteristics of a blunderbuss, you can do what you like. One example could be the guns the dwarven riflemen have in Warcraft 3. Or you can be more realistic but add a second gun it's a fairly open brief, the images are just a starting point.

This goes for everyone: feel free to share references. In a studio environment, you usually share references with eachother. If you see something that might help others, you send it around.
