I think it's pretty good as it is really. Bragging rights.. well.. you get a small icon.. something you could be proud of yourself if you know you actually won it in a fair way.

If there'd be some real price involved I'd definetly reccomend a better control over the time-limit.. But right now I think it's good as it is.

If it started at a certain time and people only had about 2h to complete their entry, then all the things such as rendering etc. would have to be included in the render.. also.. I think the numbers of participant would be pretty close to 0.. as very few would spot it in time.. and there's also those kind of people who have other things to do.

So I say: Leave it as it is, if someone gets a small icon from cheating... big deal

Cheers!

Quite the statement coming from someone who hasn't been on these forums for more than a couple days. Think you first need to take part and experience it before making assumptions about it, because so far it's been very successful and beneficial to the community (long standing members please correct me if I'm wrong?). If we have a scheduled event (at a specific time & date), maybe 10% of the folks that would usually compete would actually take part. If we have a week long event, we probably have one or two cheating themselves. Do I want to leave out the 90% of artists that usually take part because I'm trying to stop 1-2 cheaters? No, this is a learning tool which we'd like to open to as many people as possible. I understand your competition mindset but the thought-process is larger than that. The main point being what's said on the first page:

Who are you competing against ?

Yourself. These challenges are for your benefit, what you choose to make out of them is up to you. It is entirely your choice how you want to structure your workflow, place detail or decide the amount of tri's you want to use !
Cheers

I think you're right requiem, i find that even if you did remove the honour system, people will still do these competetions..why? maybe for the hell of it, and quite possibly learn a new thing about themselves or not. I visit this site nearly every day, trying to get some new info and grab inspiration, and i can honestly say judging from alot of peoples work they blow me away! i only wish i found out about this site 2 yrs ago...but none the less, LEARNING NEVER STOPS!
