Baida's poly & Textures
Hi all,
I do plenty of things in same time, so I guess opening a sketchbook could be cool instead of opening wips I won't necessarily finish. So, something I'm working on at the moment to begin that sketchbook ! That's my modified Mark V, it has an enormous barrel filled of fuel to burn his ennemies, that's more a flamethrower tank in fact. Don't ask what happens if someone shoot the barrel ![]() It's indeed a bit suicidal for the crew inside, but well, it's like that ![]() First off, the concept I created on photoshop. ![]() Then I did a highpoly... created the low, baked the AO and Normals to the low and this morning I 've started texturing. Check thumbnails ![]() It's around 5000 tris and it uses 2x1024 normal and diffuse at the moment. I still have one map to paint, then I'll perhaps tweak it. I've looked through your model and texture carefully, and there's some things that aren't right. For instance, the tank's movement chain/wheel/movement thing isn't stuck to anything. You've modelled tanks before and you know that the chain/wheel/movement thing is always on some sort of mechanism. I guess you wanted to hide it behind metal, though. Even so, you don't want that little space between the fixed and moving part. The moving parts would go through the fixed parts.
Also, I think there's too much rust in the texture. You should have a texture that combines metal, rust, dirt and grunge in a good balance. This one has too much rust now. Show us a wire ok mate? |

About the mechanism, yes, as you stated, on models such as the FT17 or even the A7V that was quite visible.
On this model, almost anything not to tell nothing, is visible... Check that pic for exemple ![]() Once again mine isn't an exact copy at all, it's just a tank inspired from that shape. I won't change the model, it's too late ![]() About the over rusted texture, I agree with you, I did some test with colors but I didn't like them so much because I had in mind a very old tank, or machine made "from scratch" of several pieces found everywhere. I thought that could be cool to have that over rusted texture.... It's seems it's not very loved ![]() Anyway, thank for your comment, I give you two wires, I've checked my tricount I'm something like 4700 tris. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't pay attention to new textures, they are still being edited, I'm just too tired to edit them now, because of the new year ![]() |

hi,
I'm not sure what dennis is talking about, personally i can't see anything wrong with it ![]() Like i said yesterday, looks pretty good. I was a bit "occupied" then though, didn't have time to give it some proper attention. There are a few things you could look into. One of them are the tracks. They look extremely flat. the reference you posted has bolts and extra details, and such, yours hasn't, and i think it would really benefit from it. (they're the biggest part of your tank, you definitely want that to look spot on). Other than than, and an AO map, that's pretty much what i can come up with... I like the subtle paint job btw ![]() cheers J |

No I didn't, why mate !? ![]() Quote:
I'll add aswell bolts on those tracks, that's a good suggestion ! Thanks for this. Quote:
I still have to create them, but before all, I must add all the suggestions given above ![]() I totally agree with what has been stated above, it looks flat, however, there is a normal map applied. I don't use realtime shader at the moment, that's just some renders I did with omnies I placed quickly. The strenght of the normals maps are set to 100 in the materials editors. So I don't see what could be the problem if it's not the specular (which is not present at the moment) If that could help, a render with just the normal map applied and my maps... Keep giving your suggestions mate, that's really helping me, all don't seem obvious for me ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok, thanks for you comment Fabio, I'll add an AO map on this as soon as possible and aswell a specular map.
In the meanwhile I've been busy with working on several project such as these one at the bottom. As you can see the tracks are hidden at the moment The FT17 tank for verdun, that one'll be a static set in fire. And I textured that piece aswell, the model is NOT MINE this one was provided by my teacher at school. The aim of the assignment was to paint the object and include aswell the ligthing inside the texutre, the size of the map is 512x512. I'll perhaps tweak it a little bit, once I have some free time. If I remember to do that... ![]() |
