Taking a break from 3-D for a bit. Sketches.
Got some down time, trying to learn Zbrush, but I figured while I'm at it I should brush up on the basics. So hopefully I'll keep this going and get back into just drawing for fun. It's been far, far too long.
Crits and comments welcomed. I'm rusty as hell. (Wacom in photoshop) ![]() ![]() More to come..... |

I'm not sure where BuLL is coming from on shading, the sketches are excellent, including the shading. Especially in the eagle, the flow in the line work is very nice. Typically, myself included, I can get very crazy with shading in the hatching/line style, and it can be too much. I think you have a healthy dose of speed, concept and shading.
I like that you're rolling with a more neutral-background and not using flat black to draw your lines. My suggestion for you would be to actually come in with a lighter grey, close to white almost, and add some small highlights. This greatly helps your 3d grasp on the 2d plane and will only bring out more of your sketches. You don't have to fall straight into 'painting', just using two tones, much like using charcoal. Ya dig? Keep 'em comin'! |

Hi Killer, I really love how your sketches are so clean and wanted to ask, are these done in Photoshop? Also agree with Leyto, the croc is sweet

Thanks for the kind words gang, it's been fun getting back into it. Been doing level work too much, it's been a fresh breath of air getting back to basics.
My process is a bit muddled at the moment since I'm really just trying to figure it out. I used to sketch everything out on paper, then ink over it with pen and erase the pencil, scan it in then color it. Yet for these I just wacom'd em with a solid brush and the eraser. Oh ya, photo ref for sure. I wish I could bust these out from memory, but Michelangelo I am not. (The guy, not the turtle, although I'd be down with being a ninja reptile. hopefully more to come, work picking up soon. Won't have the time like I do now.
