zbrush sketchbook

I wanna improve myself with Zbrush, as I've sort of been scared of it for ages now. Rofl I dunno, just seems intimidating when you see all this photo realistic stuff being done in it. I'm not a total beginner like, just never really delved into the program like I should of.

Yeah I just tend to make weird monsters, dunno ask just always been my thing. My anatomy is appealing though, so I'll be doing some figure sculpting.

rate/slate past two days of messing around.

Some very horriffic looking creatures there! Certainly interesting.

I would say the underlying theory could be improved, such as the faces look flat and the mouths look weird.
I would look at basic anatomy of not just humans but animals to get a feel for basic plausible shapes/silohettes and then incorporate that into your designs.

Aye, well I haven't used zbrush in a few months so I just had a play around and those two things popped out. For now I'm gunna be studying anatomy brutally. I totally agree though, at the minute I don't have a strong enough knowledge of muscle groups and general anatomy to make anything look convincing.

Cheers for the reply.

Anyway, here's two torso studies I managed to squeeze in. Shall sculpt more tonight after the gym.

next beast, started with a zsphere.
the legs are really messed, and the hands are too big. I'd say it's a smidgey bit better than the last one.

Kind of got into this creature, probably going to finish it. Pretty cool how only like 5 anatomy sculpts helped out a lot.

Decimated it for test. At 90k polys on this render, maya wouldnt open anything over 100k :s.

Pretty much done all major detailing. Need to figure out the armour on its back though, looks boring now. Can see the details better with the full poly version...

Dunno about spikes so far. Might look better with better modelled spikes.

Its funny when I saw the head post I really thought you'd take it in different direction.
I saw much more fish/amphibious thing. Maybe as it looks like Lovecraftian type thing like this:
cthulu - Google Search
I do like the head alot got some personality there
For your current scuplt look at resident evil hunters perhaps for ref?

Thanks for the feedback, if you're interested the head was based of a flies head, and then the body came from looking at lickers from resident evil. During a break I saw some of the sculpts from gears of war 3 creatures, so a lot of detail came from that.

Just checked out hunters and the scales look pretty epic. I've been stuck for detail on the polished armour bits, so probably going to have with the same style as these hunters scales.

Update: Pipes happened. I always seem to get the pipes out :s
