Rednaz' Sketchbook on Texturing

I've been browsing this forum for a while now but I haven't really posted anything before because I'm new to game art and only been working on smaller stuff.
So I decided to start a sketchbook where can I dump my work and hopefully get some good crits ^^.

My most recent piece:

To see my most recent work, please check last page.

My work is mostly 2D photoshop work for now and I will continue to paint stuff in Photoshop while im trying to wrap my head around maya.

These are a few environment thumbnails from the past days. I made these because Ive just started with digital painting and want to focus more on composition and color instead of small details.

A somewhat bigger painting, had a hard time with detail on the island :/

Test with blur and blending modes on a quick sketch.

Here are 2 hand painted textures I did yesterday, the bricks were defintely harder then the clean wood but Im pretty satisfied with the end result. Since Im not (yet) using these textures for 3D I painted a few highlights on the bricks.

Its been a while since my last update (had to finish up a few things for school) but I had a few free hours which I decided to spend on this denim jeans texture.

I used a combination of alot of small patterns on top of each other and used some handpainting techniques to try and break up the computer generated look.

Tell me what you think

Sorry for not posting any sooner because I think you got some really great working going on. Have you got some more work like the concept art and textures? It's always nice to see handpainted textures

No problem, and thanks Ive got some other work lying around from a while ago but most of it isnt finished and not game related so the stuff Im posting here is all recent.
Tomorrow Ill post a new batch of textures that Im working on at the moment.

Alright here's another update from the past two days.

Next to the usual painted textures I did a few tutorials to learn maya (and 3D in general). I picked up this book on cg that had an exercise where I had to unfold a real life object ie a carton or box of some kind. So I cut up a Ice Tea carton and basically unfold this in real life instead of maya's uv unwrapper. This way I only had to do a planar projection to keep things simple. I then fold the flat 3D plane to the carton box and merged all the vertex' together. It has a few minor artefacts so Ill just redo this exercise until I get it right.

I realise this model is nothing compared to what gets posted on these forums, but I decided to post my progress regardless.

I also did a few tutorials from the maya 'getting started' manual. I have yet to figure out how to make a decent render so Ill just post a viewport grab.

And here are a few textures and a still life I did yesterday.

Worked about 4 hours on that can, I just couldnt stop adding details
And then when I finished I found out that the perspective on the bottom right is kinda off... o well

Summer vacation started!

Had alot of time past days so I wanted to do some more texture painting.
I decided to do some more bricks, but instead off 1 canvas with 100 of the same bricks I did 4 smaller one's with different kind of bricks. The moss was definetly the hardest but also the most fun

And here's a metal panel I did from reference:

Crits would be appreciated

I can't help but feel the bricks look a bit flat with a shadow underneath, finding a way to add a more 3d effect would be beneficial. But the two on the left look most realistic, especially the one on the bottom left. They just need more depth - especially the top two (hopefully that wasn't confusing to read ).

Also the moss on the mossy brick wall is a bit to low res and lacks detail which gives it a mossy feel.
