Bens Sketchbook

Hey guys,
Finally started making a few things now, figured this is the best place to document them. Nothing too significant yet but its more than what i had before. any crits are welcome and much appreciated.

All images are from my CGSociety Portfolio page as i dont know how to make my own portfolio website yet so i apologise for image size and res and such. Also note that these are only the pieces that i like but there are a few more on the portfolio so feel free to check it out and post regarding those aswell if you want.

First model is my moniter, im hoping to use this as part of my final year project later this year, this shoud be just one of may props on the way. It weighs in at 652 Tri's and uses 4 1024 maps, Diff, Spec, Emmissive and Normal. I experimented with Gloss maps but couldnt get them to work properly in max or unreal so i gave up, If anyone can direct me to an source that can help me understand them i would appreciate it greatly as at the moment they stump me.

This next piece is a skip i made randomly one weekend. Its one of those things everyone makes at some point and i felt like making something traditional. It clocks in at 1224 tri's and uses 3 2048 maps, diffuse, specular and normal. I havent included any screen grabs but this model is the first one i have ever used in unreal and hopefully is only the start of my learning with the engine.

This final model was originally intended to be used as part of a large jurrassic park project i was undertaking over the holidays. Frankly I overestimated how much i still have to learn so ive shelvd the project for now. There are a few more props i made for that project but this is the best of them. It uses 3 2048 x 2048 maps, diff, spec and normal and weighs in at a few thousand tri's. I cant remember the exact amount, i ill update this later.

Another moniter. This one was a little harder that the first due to the reflections on the front panel. The texture maps are all 1024, but im trying to optimise a bit more and have gotten the spec down to 256 x and could probably do the same with gloss. The diffuse couldnt be optimized any more due to the text.

Little more work to show. For a cryengine 3 mod im currently working on. Not finished but its took a decent wad of time to do so i wanted to display it somewhere before i jump into texturing. The following images are all the final first person models with normal and AO maps. The next phase is to export them to mydbox for painting and then finish up in photoshop.
