Sketchbook Mik
Hi Folks,
i decided to have a sketchbook here, in hope to get some feedback and to get a lot of helpful information :-) i'm kind of new to the game scene, thats why i have mostly renders right now. i want to get into the unreal engine soon, but i can't really get something to work there. lets see ![]() anyway i just uploaded a few things i was doing lately, and will post sometime new wips, and things. have fun, mik ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by mik; 29-06-2009 at 04:42 PM. |

Pretty nice stuff man, I like the exterior, especially the handrails. Im curious tho.. is it supposed to be a sidewalk and street? If so the scaling of the bridge seems a little small, like too low. At first glance it looks like a river in Venice, in which case the bridge would make sense since small boats would pass under it.
Im not so hot on the elephant but everything else looks good. Keep it up! |

thanks for your reply dieone
well yeah the elephant, hehe you're right about it, i was trying to get something organic as i really suck at modeling characters or animals. i want to start texturing the venice scene soon, lets see how that works out. about the scaling you're right too, it looks pretty low. have to double check that one again. also i'm thinking of modeling some more detail into it, like some small stone tiling in that street in front of the camera. thanks ![]() Last edited by mik; 30-06-2009 at 02:25 AM. |

Environments looks very clean and well thought out. Only suggestion is giving that arch on the left more edges. Looks too rough when compared to the rest of the scene.

Nice work, i especially like the exterior scene, you should only adjust the smoothing groups on the inner side of the arc(beside what CYoung said). Was the exterior your design or reference? Or a mix

thanks for your kind comments guys
yeah you're both right with the arc, it looks really a bit too edgy, and i will change that. With the design, i mostly took the reference from a picture, and added some own stuff too. and for the elefefant i don't know if some zbrush will help this little fellow i somehow liked him as a sweet small elephant ![]() cheers and thanks for the comments mik |

I like it, cant crit on much, but one question? How, do you start with environments like that, and where do you find your references(if any) for the architecture?
EDIT: oops! Just saw this post Quote:

I did a bit of research on google and wikipedia about italian style architecture, also i just looked for pictures of rome, venice and stuff like that. How they build stuff, as its style is very unique in my opinion. i found this picture on flickr.com which is i took as a reference for my environment.
![]() cheers, mik |
