Scene From a Movie - Results!!

What a competition this has been! I truely hope that you guys have enjoyed it as much as we did and that you've learned a great deal out of it. After weeks of hard work we are pleased that we can, once again, congratulate one of the teams with an outstanding entry in our "Scene From A Movie" competition.

The honor for this competition, and the massive, grand, first-place prize, goes to "The Replicants", with their scene from "Bladerunner". On behalf of the entire Game-Artist.net staff, as well as our community, I'd like to say congratulations to shadows, in3d and Alina for their outstanding work! Such a great entry, definitely deserving of the first place. Well done team!

But there is more. Much more.

The second place goes to "Twinkle in a Child's Eye", with a scene from "Hook". A very well nice piece of art, which was executed very nicely from concept through to final presentation. Congrats to 00Zero, Turpedo and jaytown for their work!

Third place goes to "Coridium", who entered the arena on his own and did a fantastic job of creating a true piece of game art based on the film "XMen 2". Nice work Coridium!

Forth place goes to "Team Awesome", with their scene from "I am Legend". Very nice work patsy, PlatinumGold and Insulaner!

and finaly, the Fifth place goes to "Weyland Corp", with their scene from "Aliens". Well done HP, Gizm0san and Buddy!

Team Awesome: I think it looks awesome but one thing that I do lack is a certain shine factor. It looks a bit dull lighting and material wise. Some stronger lighting and specularity would have bumped it up to the highest quality for me.

Interior Crocodile: I can see quite a few issues and inaccuracies. The lightrays are very heavy to render in a real time engine they way you placed them, this problem is made even worse because the skeletons are translucent. In general the scene doesn't shine for me.

Marco_Lazzarini: A nice and solid scene – although nothing really stands out for me. The fence on the second floor wastes a lot of polys.

MidgeS: Looks too basic in general, especially the texturing is very simple, as is the lighting.

Arhurt: Needs a strong lightsource at the end and rimlighting on all surfaces to mimic the movie scene. Wall on the left seems quite high poly for what it is.

Devils Lair: Very difficult scene to make with all its organic shapes and its little anything else. If there's little but the organic shapes, all focus will fall on those and any mistakes you make there will become even more obvious.

Zeta: There is a lot of very contrasting black around and it lacks the subtle color palette of the movie, and thus its feeling.

p00se#2: A difficult scene because of its darkness. When there is no lighting you can't use the lighting to help you on making it look nice and the other elements will get a whole lot more weight to bare, they usually can't take that much weight. The roofs are very high poly while it should be the things that are on the players height that should have most detail.

Cody4Poly: It is much darker than the movie scene and it lacks the colors and feeling of that scene. Lighting and materials are the big problem here. The lights don't seem to have much of an impact on the environment, there is a lot of darkness around, and all material seem equally dull (specular).

pAldred: The lack of lighting really hurts the scene for me. A lot of triangles of grass going on.

The Replicants: Looks better than the movie. I think it is a very nice scene, slightly high polycount though. Good texturing too.

Trowstuff: Floor has a bit of a weird specular/reflection. The scene look OK and resembles the scene from the movie well, it doesn't stand out for me in anyway though.

Censored: A technically decent scene but nothing really stands out for me. I don't think this is the best movie scene you could have used as it lacks a nice composition and there is not really anything going on but two water towers and a building.

Evolution: A dark and orange scene that relies heavily on effects, I can't find much of that back in yours.

Matthew Novak: A difficult scene because of the amount of details and all the mess it has. Yours looks much more empty. The original scene is a very standard environment that stands out because of all the mess, if you take the mess away however you end with a rather simple environment. I also think that the ceiling should have had another texture.

Cram This Up Your Pixel: A great scene, both the one in the movie and your replication. What I do miss is a certain shine factor. I think that you made a mistake in the background. The original scene has a gradient in the background which creates the necessary variation in the distance and emphasis the vertically of the scene. You do not have that gradient and as result it looks a bit too busy in the distance, and lacks depth and focus. Other than that it is wonderful.

Team Dedji: It looks too basic but the choice of scene was good.

Twinkle in a Child's Eye: A great albeit difficult scene with all its details. You succeeded well however, it is looking great. I would have liked seeing a bit more lighting though, and a more interesting play of lightcolors and strengths Right now the scene seems to rely solely on one big directional light.

Prefect 3: The original scene looked interesting because of the explosions and since yours doesn't has those it lacks something. It is a bit simple but it's not bad either.

Three's A Crowd: A good scene, however nothing stands out for me. A sky would have been nice, and some more focused lighting.

Oldboy: I think it looks really good and it has a nice style and feel to it. The scene itself is rather simple though, it is just a corridor.

Polyjuice: A more consistent color palette would have improved the scene for me, just like the movie uses color correction for an improved look. Other than that it is a good scene but lacks a bit of atmosphere.

yoy team: The terrain is very high poly and I think the lighting is much too yellow.

Mr. Beaver: The piece of cloth or paper with the open text is very high poly. I don't think the original scene is very interesting. The scene itself is a bit basic too.

Elemental: Some stronger use of materials would have helped, other than that it looks good.

Coridium: Looks great. I also like the colors and the atmosphere. I do think the ceiling looks a bit unfinished as it is so empty and dark.

Blow the Doors Of: The lighting lacks a little. It doesn't seem sourced enough and in general doesn't enhance the scene, atmosphere, or composition. That aside the scene is good, but doesn't stand out.

Krisp: A fascinating building. Good modeling work, but the lighting ruins it for me. Much too powerful and simple.

Weyland Corp: Looks awesome. It looks very much like the movie and it has a certain style to it. A brighter and possible large scene would have been more impressing though.

Hot Dang! Sauce: A nice atmosphere, but it could have been improved further with better lighting.

Dirty Hanzo: Nice amount of details, but nothing in the scene really stands out for me.

Coridium: You've really matched your reference well. There are a couple of areas around the light board that could use more detail, but very nice work.
