First crit I'd have to say is its not very kosher to have work you did from a tutorial in your portfolio (i.e. old damaged pillar). You have some fairly decent work there, but it gets overshadowed by the amount of crap on your site. Some very common portfolio critiques could help you a lot.
1. Your work needs to be on the first page, move/remove the wall of text on the first page. 2. It is not clear what type of job you are going for. you have level design, VFX, 3d art, web design, and some graphic design stuff. You need to focus your energy on the type of job you actually want (i.e. environment artist, vfx artist, level designer, etc., etc., etc.). If you want to be a game artist, Id recommend removing everything non-game related out of your portfolio. Such as, the arch viz stuff, all design stuff, and your other 3d generalist work. 2a. Too much clicking. 3. Having just one rendered image/screenshot of each piece (referring to the 3d stuff) is not very helpful in showing your ability. I recommend you include wireframes, texture sheets, and more than one shot of the finished piece. 4. Finally, its rather annoying that your galleries have no structure. The thumbnails are all different sizes and all over the place. Looking good so far, keep at it! |

one other thing I would suggest is to get rid of everything that isnt made by you
You have a note at the bottom of the page but if you didnt make it why include it at all? Its one thing for an animator or compositor to have other peoples meshes but I cant think of any reason for a modeler to have other peoples meshes in their portfolio. Its totally legit that you explain what parts are your work and what arent, but i think its so much more impressive if you can say that everything you see is made by me The old damaged pillar is a no brainer, I would definitely take it down

I assume that you are referring to the office image? Just the monitor arm (which is hard to see even) was not by me, and I didn't want to take credit for it. It was just an asset I pulled in from a co-worker.
As for the pillar, even being something I made my self but followed general instructions for is bad? Its not like he goes through and tells you what numbers to put. Also I used zbrush instead of mudbox. So my workflow was different.... Thank you though for the added info. |

Yeah, stay away from tutorial work. Even though you followed it 'generally', it still shows you got 'help' and doesn't show that you can work solo. If you want to do props, do some that aren't over done (like me, I have a barrel and a shipping container on my site, who DOESN'T have those, bad move on my part). It just shows you can do what others can also. Give your portfolio an edge over others, show the employer YOU can do better than the other guy. Actually, look at my site, and do everything I didn't, I broke about EVERY rule in portfolio work that you can

good looking content it looks really detailed, with that said, i'd have to say the stumbleupon link makes you look like a fanboy as well as the firefox/thunderbird the firefox one is ok but thunderbird makes u look more fanboyish. also your website seems like more than a portfolio, the more pages you have the harder it is to navigate usually, i pulled up a jpeg, and tried to get back after closing it but it appears it closed the window... haven't looked back since
the less amount of pages you have the easier it is to find your way around, I.E. if you have only a content, resume, contact - well those are the bare minimum. the about pages seems almost well, like your trying to fill space that doesn't need to be there in my opinion. It needs a cleanup, there is also a good percent of wasted space that i would try and fill up somehow or make it look neater than diagonal stripes |
