Are blogs a good idea?

So- I'm horrible at webpages. I read something about cheating with blogs and managed to piece together this in less than a day.

Crystel Land’s Game Art Portfolio

Pay $10 and you can use your own domain- kind of nice.

This is my current website
RoutineChaos.com

It's full of no-no's that I tried to get rid of in vertex snapper. Let me know what you guys think- if I've made a mistake or not.

As far as it being a weblog portfolio, if you're unaware of it from the get go (or notice the footer text :P), you probably aren't going to notice.

Couple of things - Might not be a good idea to flat out put your address on your resumé, but put a message saying you can hand over your address as needed (same with telephone numbers). Otherwise, you get nice people mailing you boxes of aggravated bees.

The other thing is that it's a shame your template is shrinking your images automatically. Notice the second image you have on your Treehouse page. When websites have scripts to shrink images on the fly, it just shrinks them with code and the result is a really badly aliased representation of what it used to be. It's a shame because it's a nice image when viewed at its' intended size.

Dude, have you actually had this happen to you, or is this just some sort of myth? I think its acceptable to remove contact information for referees, but removing contact details... seems to me like its gimping an application.

And to be honest, I liked your old site a little more than the wordpress version, bar the frames you had going; there was no point. The thumbs on your wordpress seem... unnecessarily at the moment, since you've got so much vertical space to utilise. iFrames ftl

I guess it's a tough call with the address. I don't mind free stuff but I am a little wary about it, so I might remove that.
With the shrinking- I resized it myself and saved and it looks better- but I don't know if that really made it better or not. I kind of like vertexsnapper better since I had such a hard time putting together routinechaos and it was so easy this time around. :\

I don't mind using blog software for a portfolio, as long as there is a purpose and your actually writing/blogging about the work. I've definitely seem some good ones out there where someone is posting wireframes and WIPs, and giving a good explanation of their thought process, work flow, and other general commentary...and then off to the side having a link just to see the work itself. This is the best use IMO

An online portfolio isn't really an application though, is it? It's more like the thing before or after an application. You can always include your phone numbers and addresses with your initial point of contact, and save yourself the chance of getting gangbusted by someone on a forum that you might've accidentally pissed off, eh?

iFrames can indeed gtfo, imo
