Garth's Portfolio

Hey guys - I've just uploaded my portfolio. Any feedback would be appreciated. It's pretty bare bones at the moment, I'm hoping that having it there will push me to do bigger and better things. I've had some feedback already that perhaps I should drop the 3d models because they aren't too good. Let me know what you think.

I'm an illustrator and hope to land a gig as a concept artist.

I like how everything is just there on the first page. Too bad the thumbnails do no justice to what's inside. I don't think your 3d work is bad but it's better if you leave it out because you want to be a concept artist and that's what you should focus on. And then you also have more room for your 2d art work. One other thing. Your resume is a pdf. I think it would be best if you just make an html version for the site and have the option to download the pdf file. And maybe a Word document too.

I pretty much agree with TheCorey. It would not be a bad idea to make the thumbnails bigger so that you can show more on them. Maybe you can even make a bigger width of your whole website since 670px appear very small on a widescreen monitor these days. A friend of mine who is a good website designer tells me that 800 to 950 pixels width are very common these days.

However, I don't see a reason to not show your 3D work, since it looks great as your illustrations do and shows that you are able to put your 2D concept art into a 3D space + being able to unwrap, texture and even a bit of rigging. No reason to not show that.

Thanks for your feedback, fellas. Yeah, I guess I designed the site a bit too low spec. Come to think of it, it is pretty much dwarfed when on a 22 inch or even 19 inch widescreen! Haha! I'll do an overhaul in the next few weeks and try to figure out a more effective way of displaying the thumbnails. I'll try and pretty it up a bit too coz it's a bit plain at the moment.

Thanks TheCorey for pointing out the resume stuff too. You're totally right - I need to do that.

As for the 3d stuff - hmmm...I guess I'll keep it for now.
