A Sober Irishman's Portfolio
UPDATED - View next post made by me - UPDATED
Just posting my portfolio site up here for comments/criticisms. I know that there's not much on there at the moment, but that should change soon as I'm starting at Qantm College in a couple of weeks. 3DiMartinal Design Just any sort of advice you have about the site and any criticisms would be much appreciated. Thanks -A Sober Irishman Last edited by A Sober Irishman; 03-25-2008 at 07:24 AM. Reason: website updated |

Hey Soberman,
I would add wire frames of the 3D models and also get rid of the "web" link, because 2 websites which look pretty average don't justify that. And once you have a ton more 3D models, one page to display everything will not be enough unless you want someone to scroll down for ever. Besides that, nice looking 3D models you got there so far. Good decision with qantm btw. I wish you much success there. I am at qantm college too and i don't regret it. Every cent was worth it! ![]() |

Okay, I've updated my site a bit since last time I posted, I changed its domain, and a bit of its design. There is only one model on the front/3D artwork page at the moment, it is mainly a sort of template for how the rest of the page will be laid out, with a thumbnail of the model and links to the maps used on it.
I will probably also add a link to view the wireframe of each model, as well as polycount information. The 3D page will be set up into textured and untextured work, with textured at the top and untextured at the bottom. Any comments and criticisms you might have about the website are welcome. I agree with rascal, I'd get rid of the websites from your portfolio, because in all honesty, they are very basic. Unless you want to be a web designer they aren't really needed.
Apart from that, the design looks fine, just needs filling up with content ![]() Refer to this article aswell Jon Jones, smArtist » Your portfolio repels jobs I found it really useful when doing my portfolio. |

Your homepage has loads of text and a crate on it. Get rid of all that text (you already have the nessecary stuff in your resume) and fill your front page with work.
People want to see your work first and based on the quality of that they will check your resume if they are interested.

Also, the paragraph entitled '3D Artwork' is unnecessary. As Alchemist says, put your work first, as that's what people will be visiting your site for. If they like your work, then they'll read the resume. |

I've made the changes you wanted, there's now no web page section and nothing but art on the main page. I'll see how it looks once it adds the rest of the content, because at the moment it looks really empty. Also, do you think I should add a different page devoted to texturing for the stuff I have done in Speed Texturing Competitions? Or should I put it on the main page?

personally I would not add any sections for different stuff, whack it all on thumbnails on the front page. You'll probably find that as you get more work you'll end up getting rid of the early stuff any way
