My portfolio..
Wow, creativ title..
http://www.ron-froelich.de Simple design, but it loads quite fast, shoves the work directly into your face and should work on every broadly used browser. Last time I checked it did at least. Still very WIP (have a look at the "About" section.. ) |

It's not bad. Feels a little dark though. You could make the thumbs pop a little more, give them a border, make the text a little more interesting. Try different sizes and styles for the name of the model and for the polycount, they should not look the same... it's hard to keep track.

I like the sleek design and the fact that your work is right there when you log on, but the text has to be easier to read. I like the dark grey around the screen but the text cannot be that color too
I've got 2 monitors one is good quality and the other is a cheap lcd. The text is readable on the expensive monitor but it very hard to see on the cheap one. I dont see any wireframes on there too, you need them up otherwise no one can tell how good a modeler you are Also you revolver is your best piece so make it bigger than the rest to show it off, let people know that this is your best work

Errmm.. Are we looking at the same page?
andrei313, on my monitor it looks exactly how I wanted it (surprise!) on my father's it's even a bit too bright. I guess you always have such problems with grey sites. For one they're almost black, for other people way too bright, depending on the monitors gamma. The thumbs actually have a border. A black one, maybe that's the reason you can't see it, because it's too less contrasted from the background. I'm gonna use a white one and see how it looks. Alchemist101 -did I miss a nickname trend somehow?- I guess, I'll switch back to a white text if it's that hard to read. There actually are renders with a wireframe overlay, I thought that'd be enough to judge the models polydistribution. It's the second picture for the buzzsaw and the knifewrench and the third one for the revolver. About the revolver being my best piece: I'm going to add some further stuff and update the site every time I finished another project. The pictures might have been a bad choice, because the knifewrench and the buzzsaw were like one of the first models I made and the revolver is one of my latter projects. The revolver won't be my best piece when everything is uploaded.. I hope. Furthermore, I wanna leave it to the viewer to judge which piece he likes most and not trying to focus him on one of the pieces.. |

Insulaner - those 2 posts you just read are just mine and Andrei's opinions.
Thats sort of the whole reason for posting up WIP stuff on a forum. I have had crits on my work that were compete bollucks, you may not agree with them but there is no point in being defensive.

He doesn't seam defensive
maybe it's my bad english :-P Enough joking around... here is what i just though of... You have a nice style with that bar on the top that says RON and the one on the bottom About - Work... Why not integrate that in the thumb? Make the thumbs a little bigger if you need (that is usually a good point... I'm planing on making mine bigger soon ) and put the same tabs on the top and bottom of the thumb. ). On the top you can write the name of the model and on the bottom the tri count, use the same font... Might look nice if you have a style that makes everything integrate better.

It's very dark on my screen as well. Consider a light grey for the text and you should be fine! I agree that the images might benefit from, say a 2px solid border that matches the text. You could even add a splash of dark red for colour, always good to have at least three colours in any given colour pallete - that will make it much more visually appealing.
Have you considered how it's going to scroll once you add more work? Within the frame or stretching down the page? Love to see how it progresses, keep us updated. |

The first line was just to make sure that we actually see the same page, because shortly after I finished the topic text my router crashed while I was changing some stuff at the website. To be honest both of you made very useful comments on the page and I plan to realize all of your ideas. Andrei, I really like the idea of adding those bar to the renders, but I guess I'll only do that for the actual images, not the thumbs. I don't really want to make them bigger, because it fits into the design perfectly right now and I don't want to stretch the design too much to avoid massive scrolling. Unwashed, I guess I'll try to add 1px white borders first, because 2px borders on a 100x75px image are a bit to much imo. And it's going to stretch down the page. I can only use HTML due to my host and I don't want any ugly browser scrollbars into the site design. |
