3D Environment Artist Portfolio

Can I have some opinions on my website:

Onur Istek - 3D Environment Artist - blaz3d.com

And my CV if possible which is on the website.

I know I am lacking some portfolio work, but that's all I have right now.

I was wondering if I should put up a training page where I show screen shots of major objects I made following tutorials, this obviously wont show much beside technical knowledge but would also fill some space, or should I stay away from this like the plague?

Put a tab or Page on "About" where we can find more details about You like your Skills your Experience, Your Software knowledge etc.
and Don't post your work on your Home page..
Make Categories and then post your work there like Post a category Like Control Room and then post 1 or 2 Final image, Texture Sheet, Wire frame if Needed and also Some details on ur work...
and keep your layout as simple as you can..

Try to impress people from your work.......

Checkout Mark Abadier's site for reference

Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply, while I’m always open to pointers/criticism I have to disagree with all the ones you pointed out. Here is why:

First of all "about me" page, this is personal preference, while building my website I read a few sites about the do's and don'ts on your games portfolio. One was not to repeat same information, all the things you said I should put in a "about me" page is 1 click away in my CV. So this will be unnecessary repeated info and complicate the website.

Don't post your work on your homepage? Mate what website are you on? My work in my homepage is just small thumbnails and big thumbnails that link to the full project page. Looking at your website you done the exact thing by posting big preview thumbnails.

Yes my work is categorized; each thumbnail is a project that leads to its full project page. When I'm overhauled with different projects I could break it down into more categories later if needed.

Keep website simple? Don't see what's complicated, it's only one step ahead of being a plain html website, I guess you got overwhelmed by the bricks texture in the background? I prefer it to the old plain grey I had before.

Try impress people from your work - Don't know how this could help me, besides make me feel like my work is not good enough, as I don't consider the background impressing people anymore than the 3D work.

Mark Abadier Gallery has a good website, doesn't mean everyone has to have one like that.

I've looked into 100's of top environment artist websites.
One that stood out to me and beat everyone else's website was hands down
Portfolio of Jeroen Groen his work inspired to make a similar template so Thanks to Jeroen Groen!.

Thanks for trying to help Maxthebest, just it didn’t hit home with me.

I think your site works well and easy to navigate & CV looks fine, my only points would be to have a html version of your resume which would also have the links to your pdf/doc. I only say so as it's quicker to view the html version rather than having to download the pdf/doc and then load the pdf reader/Word. Serious viewers can quickly see it and then save out the pdf/doc for later.

The other thing is I feel the background is a bit distracting ONLY when viewing your projects. Perhaps you could tone it down on those pages so that your work can 'pop out' more and not fight with the bg.

Make your email address clickable so it will load up outlook.

Also I would avoid using art tests and tutorial work, you really want unique projects to stand out from the crowd.

Thanks mate, some interesting points.

I agree I think i should make the bg more washed.

Not sure about the CV though, the file is small for these days and everyone should have decent enough computer to fire Adobe Acrobat or Word in 2-3 secs, but I will think about it
