3D Game Artist - WIP
Hi everyone,
I am currently working on my portfolio website and wanted to get some feedback. Yesterday I punched out my early design idea and hoped to get some critiques. It is still work in progress (not sure about the picture presentation in the middle, footer is still missing etc.). The pictures are thumbnails and should leave the option to either just view a gallery or to get to a detail page where there is a little info about them, similar to Helder Pinto's portfolio. ![]() Also I wanted to know where I can get those galleries seen on Clement Melendez's Portfolio when you click on pictures" Thanks for your time and I hope you can help me around ![]() greets **update: changed layout a little, added footer Last edited by hamzaaa; 19-07-2011 at 08:10 AM. |

Clement Melendez's layout seems better for simplicity.
If you're aiming to be a game modeler, you should take out the level design and game design, since they are useless to show off your real skills and what type of service you want to offer to employers. So I would keep 3D, resume and contact. Also, I would put the footer with a darker colour, because it attract my eyes with the brightness and the footer isn't the most important part of the portfolio. Focus on content, so put less emphasize on the footer. |

Hey Minh,
thanks for your critique. You are right about the footer, I will make it darker. The thing about the leveldesign and gamedesign is, that I thought I may have better chances if I show a variety of skills, since this portfolio site's first purpose is "only" for an internship (and I am not really decided yet what skill I want to emphasize). After that I would specialize more on modeling and take out the other stuff as you said. Or do you think this is a bad idea? thanks for your time ![]() |

Of course it's good to have a variety of skills, but from my experience specialization is also very important.
Pick what you enjoy the most, then work your ass off and get really good at it. If you don't have finished Games/examples of what you designed or any related Game Design experience i would get rid of that section. Usually/often Game Design work and skills are very different from the of an 3D/prop artist. Level design is much more relevant as long as you have some cool levels to show. I wouldn't worry too much about all the web design stuff, better use that time for creating art! ![]() Just keep it simple and easy to navigate. The art needs to be right in your face, no fancy flash stuff etc. That gallery thing from Melendez is probably Shadowbox.js. Also read this (just in case you haven't already ) http://www.game-artist.net/forums/sp...pels-jobs.html
