Yeah the images load kinda slow. One thing I would consider is replacing the pillar with your own work. From what I have been told by people in the game and vfx industry is to not show off tutorial work. What you could do is just make something similar but is purely your own design. Also, I would consider making a frame or somewhere for a page to load up with images and the text description of the work instead of making big jpegs to load through light box. It would be a lot faster, and with a little code work you could make it look good.

Loading is much too slow (which will most likely hurt you when potential employers come to check out your work). You may want to consider building the site using strictly html. Also, I believe your best work is in your buildings category--so consider moving that to the top. The "Environment" should be renamed to be more consistent with your more specific titles ("Western Environment", "Interior Hallway", "Old Pillar"--you may even want to consider coming up with more exciting titles). However, I'd say you really have too much going on once each category is opened. Yeah it's nice to understand your process, but really if I'm looking to hire you I just want to see your renders. Just pictures would be great. You could easily put all those workflow details in another category, but for getting a job in this case "less is more". And as always "quality over quantity".

Thanks DestroyingZen.
The images have been reduced in size now and they open up much faster. As for having too much once each category is opened up i'd have to disagree, simpy because the previous website that I had just had a render of each piece and when I took that too interviews they asked to see textures, UV layouts, wireframes etc. so having that stuff definitely is not a bad thing, i'd have to say the more they see the better understanding of your work but obviously with not going overboard. Any ideas on what kind of piece my portfolio would need next? I seem to be in a rut now

Hey man, good solid work, some suggestions:
I think you could probably reduce the height of the your banner/header because at the moment it takes up 1 quarter of the screen. By doing so I can see more of your work/menu. I would make your email address click-able so that once clicked it launches an email app. (use this code for the link 'mailto:email@address.com') I would also move the resume button to the top so that it's in clear view. Is there anyway to have a more memorable web address rather than the ip address you have? Did a quick search and your name as a web address is available. Regarding your last post, what the website shows and what you take to an interview can be different. The website should be clear and concise with an appropriate amount of images. At the interview you should take everything relating just in case they ask to see it. |
