Hey Mark, your mushroom town is adorable
The underground hospital could need more light sources, it is very dark and a bit flat right now. When you make round objects like the frame for the hospital bed, try to tile the uv a bit more to keep the same pixel ratio as the other objects. The cartoon stuff is top notch! Keep it up! |

Hey Mark,
I like your work. My impression is that it's not top-notch, but good solid quality. The cartoon stuff is especially good. Good enough quality that you can get a job in my point of view. Keep it up and don't loose patience. I've been searching for more than 5 months already :-) |

The thing that I notice in your gallery are two extremes in art direction. You have the happy colorful cartoon world then you have a dull desaturated room. You should try and pick up a third piece that fills that gap in between. Other than that, it's nice to find another environment artist that creates a full environment with proper background.

Hey guys,
Sorry it has been quite a while since I looked at this post. People didn't respond for a long while so I almost forgot about it- sorry about that. I have been busy but everything is right back on track now. Urgaffel- thank you for reminding me. Thomas Lilja: Thank you Thomas. I will keep that in mind. I agree on the lighting, it gave me trouble for a while. After doing the Unearthly Challenge 09 I have improved on lighting in unreal so I am not really sure if it is worth going back to fix it or it is that bad that I have to polish it up, please let me know! Joe Lemonade: Thanks for your honesty Joe- any suggestions to make it "top-notch" what am I lacking? I have looking for steady job for about 8 months now. Thanks for the support though ![]() Zeph: Ya that is usually how the gap between hand painted and realism is. Check out my Unearthly Challenge and let me know if this is what you meant. Thanks for the kind words. Stay in touch everyone! I will give this thread more attention. Last edited by Mazvix; 30-11-2009 at 05:06 PM. |

That's pretty cool. The only thing I would change is the size of your picture. It's a bit heavy but don't forget that you put your pictures on the web and not on your desktop. Try to optimize the size of the picture with Photoshop in "Save For Web And Devices" with a JPEG 60% quality.

megalmn2000: Thanks for the input. I always do it at a 100% since it is for my portfolio, does 60% actually show the difference? Only 2 people including you complained about the loading, it works just fine for me. When I re-update my website I will keep that in mind thanks man.

I understand perfectly that you want to keep the quality to the maximum. But on the "Save for web and devices" from Photoshop, try to play around the quality of the JPEG, you'll see that 60% is not that big different from 100%, and it's a lot more compressed. I know that because I'm also a web developper. If you need any help about web, give me a shout.
