It might be because you have passed an edge sub-selection onto the UVunwrap modifier. Click twice on the edit poly modifier and try again.

Hmm, well if you edited the edges while the Unwrap modifier was applied, then it might have screwed things up. If you haven't unwrapped anything, try deleting the Unwrap modifier and re-applying it.

there is an option in the uvw modifier that enables you to hide certain parts of your uv map (simular to hiding objects in a scene). Right click in the "Edit UVW's window", and have a look in the right upper quadmenu. I'm guessing that you by accident pressed "hide selected", it happened to me too a few times before...
If it isn't that, then i'd probably follow swags suggestions, and collapse everything and add a new uvw modifier on top. That will almost certainly work i think... cheers
