[In Progress] Corvette spacecraft - Eternal Silence
Request Type: Model & Texture Type: Vehicle Complexity: Medium

Mod URL: ES :: News Name of Asset: UTF Corvette Description of Asset: Corvettes function as space weapons platforms in Eternal Silence. They are 250m long and have specialized weapons placed on top and bottom. They won't be controlled by the player, but they will be seen often and very important in gameplay. ------------------------------------------------------------- Tri-Count: Below 5000 Sub-Models: The corvette's weapons will be the sub-models. This includes a flak cannon for shooting down fighters, a repair "orb" that arcs an electrical-type beam that can repair ships, and a missile launcher. These weapons should have different profiles to make them identifiable from a distance. Special Requirements: A basic knowledge of the Source engine will help the artist in understanding the units involved. The model is 250m long, but appears much smaller in the game due to the way units are scaled. ------------------------------------------------------------- Texture Size: 1024x2048, or two 1024x1024 Texture Maps: Diffuse, Normal, Specular, self-illum if necessary RGB Values: N/A. Skins from other ships in the fleet can be provided-- but none of the bigger ones have been made on this side yet. Special Requirements: The weapon types must be interchangeable. Make sure it works in your modeling program-- we'll make it work in the game. ------------------------------------------------------------- Links to similar assets: Anything in our gallery will guide you towards a good look for the skin. Look under "United Terran Forces" Link to Reference Material: Stick to any of the larger ships in the concept art portions of our gallery. The concept art for the corvette itself is included here, but with no color scheme. Concept art for the weapons on the corvette will be provided as soon I can find them on my labyrinth of a harddrive. -------------------------------------------------------------

tkaza: Good point! We did have a guy model this once, but he disappeared completely after finishing it, taking the model with him. He had the right idea with how the ship looked in the concept blind spots. Look at this page in our gallery and see if that helps. I'm also going to post a couple of WIP screenshots of my current scenario, since corvettes aren't in our 2.3 release. It should give everyone a better idea of exactly where they are in the map and what they do. First shot: An eagle-eye view at the scenario. My ship is about 12m, the three temporary corvettes are 200m, the capship is about 370m, the tower is 5km tall, and the asteroid it's all on is about 80km (don't worry, that one is in the 3D skybox). Second shot: You can see one of the corvettes while standing in the hangar. Excuse the checkerboard minimap-- again, it's WIP.

UnsteadyTeddy: I'd like for you to take a shot at this! I think the skills you've already demonstrated with cars will translate really well.
Like requiem said, we can leave the texture for someone else some other time. Or if you make the UV map and really see it being possible, you can take a shot at it.
