Competition #15 - dafeesh
My entry will be the corner of a creepy attic with one of those creepy attic windows. I whipped up some concept to illustrate my idea and to get the word from the mods if the attic ceiling is ok to count as the 2nd wall in the scene. If not then I will have to come up with something else. There is still no major prop or secondary props for that matter. I'll have to see if I can come up with something cool and not too stereotypical of creepy attics. The direction of the light is totally up in the air and will most likely shift more to the center of the scene to highlight and cast more light on the area.

Looks like an interesting idea! You definitely need some props, though.
How about old children's toys? I can see an old, wooden rocking horse casting some neat shadows in that light. Good luck!

thanks....it will look a lot better when I let Maya handle the perspective for me. I am going for an attic in an abandoned house or maybe recently inherited from a distant relative who never went up there. So decay is really gonna be the theme I think.

I did some modeling yesterday and did some lighting to set the mood. Now that the lighting is done, or at least mostly done I can concentrate on the props in the scene. The scene currently weighs in at 304 tris so I will probably chamfer the corners on the 2x4's and 2x6's to take off the hard edges and add more decay to the chimney. Next up will be to model some rubble at the base of the chimney and get some props in there. Once everything is modeled I can stat divvying up texture space. Comments and crits are welcome. It has been a while since I have had to set a scene in 3-d space so I am relearning a lot. This will be quite a challenge to get this to pop in comparable manor in the 3-d viewport as it does in the render

Making progress here and there. Now that I am pulling stuff I learned in school all those years back from the depths of my head, things are moving along. I need to do a little more reading about the high quality rendering for the maya viewport. I can't seem to get it to display textures. Most likely it is because my laptop video card issn't up to the challenge. Ill have to move over to the desktop and see what happens a bit later after work.

After reading some more I guess per vertex coloring doesn't work in high quality rendering. Does anyone know a work around to make vertex colors work in the view port with high quality rendering? I was just really liking the results I was getting but I guess it's back to the drawing board once again. oh well, I will most likely re-light again with pre lighting.

It basically acts as a wall, I hope it's alright because this is looking really promising
