Competition #14 - Mkm
Hola,
This comp caught my eye when I was following a link off a CGTalk email Thought it'd be great fun, so I've signed up ![]() Left it all rather late so I only started this chap yesterday and I'm away tonight too so I'll have to see what I can do to finish this tomorrow night! It's based off the Hercules Beetle (some nice reference material here: Goliathus.com: beetle breeding site) Got the bulk of the mesh work done, the legs still need posing and their proportions tweaked, but that'll have to wait till the UVs are done. Won't have time to do a nice weathered texture pass, so I'm just gonna aim for that "fresh off the production line" look for the submission render. Here's a screengrab of the mesh so far. I see a lot of thought going into some of the weapon systems on this forum, but this guy is just a simple assault unit with a bloody big battering ram/spike/blade*. Nothing fancy ![]() Mkm73 *delete as applicable |

Just about got it done, (hangover thankfully just about gone). Despite hosting the final render myself, I can't seem to get it to appear so I've settled for just posting it as an attachment
![]() Enjoyed doing this, though I doubt I'll follow it up a dirty version. I had hoped to render it with a fish eye lens effect, but the first method I found (create a reflective hemisphere and point the camera at that - away from the scene), seemed like it'd require a lot more twiddling time that I had available ![]() Mkm73 |
