Welcome to ModContractor, the one stop source where Mods & Game-Artists meet. Get art done on an piece-by-piece basis.
The FAQ which also serves as a rule set is broken down in the following groups: - General
- Mod Leaders
- Artists
- Viewers
General
===========
What is the purpose of ModContractor?
Quote:
|
ModContractor is an initiative of Game-Artist.Net to assist both Artists and Mods in getting work done by working on a piece for piece basis, i.e. if you choose to take a job, you are only responsible for that piece. The artist doesn't need to join the team and the mod doesn't need to hire/recruit the artist. There are no long term commitments.
|
Why have ModContractor?
Quote:
|
Artists on one hand, need portfolio work or might not have the time to fully join a mod. Mods on the other hand, might need to get some work done because a release deadline is approaching or just because they need to get more done.
|
Mod Leaders
===========
Which Mods are eligible for ModContractor?
Quote:
All Modifications which have:
1) Displayed significant & tangible progress (judged through an array of factors, size of team, amount of media, releases, etc.)
2) Have the knowledge and ability to import assets into the game engine in question.
3) Are developing for a released engine (exceptions may be made)
|
How do I get permissioned to post a thread in the ModContractor forum?
Quote:
You do two things:
1) Join the group entitled " " through your UserCP -> Group Memberships.
2) PM requiem2d & doylle with a link to your modificiation staff page where it states that you are either a Project Lead or Art Lead. The e-mail on that page must coincide with the e-mail you used to register with the site (a link to your forum profile which states the same is also permissable). If everything checks out, and you are eligible, your group membership which enables you to post in the ModContractor forum will be authorized.
|
What's the catch for Mod Leaders?
Quote:
|
Nothing really, except that you need to be able to provide the Artist who developed the asset with high quality & high resolution in-game screenshots for use in their own portfolios. This must be performed in a timely fashion.
|
How many Asset Requests can be open at any given time?
Quote:
|
Initially, you are only allowed a single request. Once this request is completed and the artist receives their screenshots, you will be allowed to have three open. A thread is deemed complete when both Artist & Mod Lead are satisfied.
|
What are the limits of an Asset Request?
Quote:
|
Essentially can you pick any type of asset; Full Piece (model & texture), Texturing only, HUD art, etc. You will need to have staff on your team which are available to import the finished pieces, otherwise the artists have no way of receiving their screenshots.
|
What should I put into a Request?
Quote:
Title: "Type of Asset - Name of Asset" (i.e. "Character - John Doe", "Prop - Crate")
Content: After passing the initial series of questions, you will need to make sure that you're really covering all the bases for the artist. This can be in the form of more detailed specifications or providing references. If you are providing images, only post a single one and link to the others.
Attachment: You will also have to include a thumbnail by attaching an image (gif or jpg) when you start a new request.
Threads missing vital information or a thumbnail will be removed
|
How do I pick an Artist?
Quote:
|
Artists will post in the thread offering their skills and proposing a timeframe. If you are happy with an artist you see, reply to the thread choosing this artist (i.e. "For this request, I will pick Username")
|
When is a request considered done?
Quote:
|
Once the artist provides the asset & the mod leader provides the screenshots, etc. the thread will be closed by moderators.
|
How do I avoid conflict / miscommunication with the Artist?
Quote:
|
By posting all requests, changes and other needs within the thread. If there is ever a dispute, chat logs & e-mails will be void, so keep it in the forum. Avoiding this rule can put you at risk of losing your membership in this community as administrators can only base their opinion on content within the thread.
|
What other rules should I keep in mind?
Quote:
1) If you're not an artist you are warned that we are very strict when it comes to posting replies in
other parts of our forum such as work in progress or finished pieces, please consult the page on
Constructive Criticism (especially the part on patronizing):
http://www.game-artist.net/forums/vi...nstructivecrit
2) For recruitment purposes, the Hiring forum is your only destination. Recruiting from within other threads or mass private messaging is not allowed. These rules are enforced heavily and breaking them will result in loss of your account with GA.Net as well as the removal of any ModContractor requests.
|
How do the Artists & Mod Leaders communicate?
Quote:
|
All communication must be performed via the thread through which the request was made. This, in case of a dispute will help the Staff of this site determine the outcome of the problem at hand.

How do I get the job?
Quote:
|
If you are interested in an asset, reply within the thread stating why you are the person for the job, a link to your previous work as well as the expected amount of time you need to complete the piece (be realistic). Once an artist is picked by the mod leader, all other proposals will be deleted to keep the thread clean.
|
Can I use this as practice?
Quote:
|
Yes & No. Use it if you feel confident that you can deliver the asset within the specifications & guidelines. If you are unsure, check with the Mod Leader first and explain the situation (i.e. first time doing non-organic, never textured before, etc.) and it is then up to them if they accept you.

Can I offer constructive criticism on requests that are in progress?
Quote:
|
Yes, but you need to understand what the request is before launching into your opinion. Keep it concise and thorough to avoid clutter (Moderators will be stricter here than other forums).

The FAQ / Guidelines can be edited at anytime by the administrators of this site.
