[MOD] Berimbau (Source-based Sword Combat)
Berimbau
The Game: It's a multiplayer duel game based on sword fighting in third person view. I hate pitching stuff with "a game that's like...." but it helps certainly helps paint a picture. Combat plays slightly similar to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, with the flair and speed of Kingdom Hearts, and a subtle stylistic mix of Advent Children and Samurai Champloo. I know I know... I've just listed a bunch of stuff we love. That's really it, to turn the above into a tight game with a short feedback loop. The gameplay itself consists of chaining combos and reacting to attacks. This melee combat would not be like CS "knife-fights", but rather strategic and calculated. The idea is to make a game that rewards steady flow of combat. Although the "random hack and slash" newb strategy might be viable, experienced players would easily crush this kind of play style. We want to push out a "version one" asap and keep adding stuff to it as we release. We're definitely realistic on the scale of the mod. We're coding the thing up in HL2MP Source Engine with the Orange Box stuff. The project has been floating around for a while but it's really coming alive now. The mod is in a fully playable state at the current time. The development team believes in 'code first, art later' and artists coming on to the project will be able to see their work implemented as it is completed. You might also recognize me from the Project Valkyrie mod, a mod that was developed from Proof of Concept to Deliverable in just over three months. That same commitment to quality and speed is prevalent here as well. This is a mod that _will_ release. The team is quite small, but we are looking to add a couple key positions: Prop Modeler. Responsible for designing environment details that go with our maps. Must have some experience building game maps with Hammer. Must know either 3D Studio Max or Maya, and have some prior game engine model export experience. * You'll have the opportunity of modeling the world if Berimbau, its locales, props and details. Ancient statues, cobbled roads, fountains are part of this game. Character Modeler. Responsible for bringing to life the concepts of the characters that inhabit the world of Berimbau. With only two players onscreen at once, and the player constantly seeing their player model, high quality, high polygon models are the order of the day. Experience with normal maps (Zbrush or Mudbox) is a huge plus, as well as experience with Maya, or at the very least, the Maya export process. * Since the players and their blades are the focal point of the game, your work will be the most visible to the players.
