[Unpaid][Online Community Game][Mod?]

I say "[Mod?]" because it may end up becoming one if things don't go the way as planned, but anyway..

The group I am currently leading is looking for several artists who can create starships and ground units, from different xeno infantry to armored support in the form of a tank or walker, for example. If we can, we would greatly appreciate three or more artists in this regard. Another talent welcome would be coding to assist the two we currently have in speeding things along. If you are capable of concept images, that would also be welcome, as would another writer for both the games overall story, as well as the canon planned for each playable (and non-playable) race in the tri-galaxies. If we can get the talent we are aiming for, we would very much like to turn this browser-based game into a downloadable RTS, and if we can make it any bit real-time after the player logs out, so much the better. Provided that each individual that participates in its construction makes serious or major contributions, we are prepared to share in fair amounts in any profits this may acquire over the years after its public release. This game has been worked on thus far entirely in spare time, and with funding from our own pocket, while gaining what we can through agreements with artwork (for example).

I will be accepting any and all questions or applications either in this thread, or at the email address java605@hotmail.com, just be sure to label it properly so I do not mistake it for spam mail.

Galactic Apocalypse (commonly referred to as GA) is a browser-based massively multiplayer online game. The games initial concepts were devised in Spring of 2003, and Galactic Apocalypse was created by a small collective of former players of Imperial Conflict, owned by a man known only as Shamus, and hosted by Himalaya Systems + Services since 2004, the game has placed players in control over a planet, with the ability to mine asteroids located in different star systems for resources, as well as the infrastructure the player constructs on each planet, and construct a fleet of spaceships and to train armed forces to attack other player's planets.

The objective of the game is to attain a higher score than your opponents – while still surviving to see the end of the game - which can be achieved primarily by conquering portions of their empire or destroying their fleet and armed forces. The game offers a player the choice between ten races, each with their own ships and advantages, allowing for a variety of strategies. Every year, the game is reset, at which point winners are declared and a new round of play starts, commonly with a number of new features and updates to keep the gameplay balanced.

The game updates once per hour, which is called a tick ingame. Every action within the game, from the construction of a factory to the attack of another planet, takes a set number of these ticks, which gives the game a unique mix between turn-based and real-time gameplay, as it allows players only a limited window of time to react to other player's actions. Because of this, cooperation and communication between players is a necessity, which leads to a strong sense of community play as the players organize themselves into alliances. As such, Galactic Apocalypse has an active presence on the IRC network for direct communication between players.

Initially titled Galactic Armageddon, in the Summer of 2008, through several complications the url to galacticarmageddon.com was purchased by an advertising company, and offered for sale at the price of $3400.00. The games name quickly changed to Galactic Apocalypse, instead.

Galactic Apocalypse currently features ten races that players can choose from when starting their journey to galactic domination, each offering particular bonuses and different styles of play. While in the initial discussion during the games creation, there were six races, as the discussions went on and the needs of the players for diversity were seen, the games new look saw the introduction of four additional races: the Arachnids, the Commonwealth, the A’sur Imperium, and the X’adar.

* Terran Empire: Terrans are the second evolution of the human race, found in the Pegasus Galaxy, whose ships use kinetic energy and railgun weaponry. Generally they favor brute force over superior technology, and so are seen with the larger and heavier ship classes during attacks with which to inflict damage with.

* X’adar: The X’adar are a highly advanced insectoid race using small and fast ships equipped with cloaking technology. Their high firepower and speed, combined with the unpredictability of their fleets due to cloaking technology, is offset by the fact that their ships are quite fragile. The species utilizes a form of neutron technology to combat their foes.

* Precursors: The Precursors are a rather mysterious race long since thought extinct, on which not much is known. It is claimed that they are an ancient race come to claim domination over their former territory, others say that they are a different race trying to use the name to gain an empire for themselves. The fact is, they seem to have mastered electromagnetic spectrum technology, and use it to striking efficiency against anyone who challenges them.

and much more!

The game takes place in so-called rounds, the length of which lasts 365 days. At that time, the winners are declared and the game is reset, upon which everyone can sign up for a brand round. New rounds generally also bring changes in gameplay, ship statistics or even universe makeup, as a result of feedback from the players during the active round.

In between rounds - or sometimes on the side - speedgames are frequently held over several weeks which generally run at one to ten-minute ticks, instead of hourly ones for more fast-paced action.
